Greetings,

My area is finally in pre-order phase and I'm looking to pick an ISP. I would've jumped on the Cool Ideas band wagon, but their pricing for 20/2 is just outside my budget.

My options are Rocketnet, Vox, KAB Technologies from what I can tell on Vumatel's site for Cape Town. Any other ideas welcome in the R750 range. I won't touch anything Telkom related with a 100 foot pole.

Which one is the best for Netflix/Youtube and overall good ping on games internationally? *cough* and no monitoring of my online activity/downloads *cough*

I don't use more than 200gb, so I'm not that bothered with FUP, unless it's 100gb or less.

Cybersmart
Accelerit
Rocketnet
Tech5

All decent ISPs and none of them have any FUP as far as I'm aware. Out of those 4 Accelerit and Rocketnet might be your best options followed by Cybersmart and then Tech5

i would go with tech5 before cybersmart as they use seacom which has been solid from my experience so far.

Seacom has always been pretty solid. Any ISP using transit going over seacom and even Seacom as a transit provider is alos pretty good. I remember when I was using Aeonova360. They were using seacomnet as transit provider. Very sold performance.

I'm well aware of the list. Most of which I've checked that offer on the Vumatel network only does so for, eg. Johannesburg so it's pointless to contact them. Some websites are also not clear on which areas they offer fibre in

What I mean by "monitoring" I didn't explain this well. I don't want my (illegal) downloads to be throttled to death or my connection stopped, which I believe Mweb does if I'm not mistaken.

I see on Helopeter and on this forum that Rocketnet does respond to complaints, so I'll give them a shot.

I was with rocketnet for about 9 months and no complaints. Only switched to take a package they couldn't offer.

Good luck!

Personally using accelerit, got many onto their network as well, on the 50/5 package, haven't had a single day of issues, you do need to be a bit more technically capable with them, their specialists are not the best at faut finding (their router was preconfigure wrong when I got it) but the network is solid. Fast, no throttling, you can torrent like crazy.

I've been on WISP with my current ISP for over 4yrs, consisting of a dish on my roof. Now that Vumatel has installed Fibre in my area I will remain with them as they gave me an amazing deal on a 100mbs uncapped, no FUP package cause I've been with them for so long. And as a back up in case the fibre knocks offline, I can keep my WISP dish which I can use when Vuma whacks out sometimes. Vuma will install Fibre into my home on Saturday. :-)

Yes but I'm trying to point out that for 50mbs you might only pay slightly more than 150 extra on the budget?
I'm, with you there bud, i have a 50mb line, used to have 1000mb, then 100mb, and now 50mb.
Incidentaly, this is the only time your ip changes, went to change line-speed that I've noticed.

I'll relook at it in the future, but right now I'm looking to pay R750ish. I also don't really see the point of going for 50mbps, there isn't really anything I do that requires that kind of speeds. On my current ADSL 10mb line I stream 4k easily (seldom buffers) and downloads are already quicker than what I can watch it. I'm also a family of one so I have zero contest.

This is what dictates linespeed in my mind, how many users will there be at the same time, I work on 10mb/person, 25mb/person if streaming 4k netflix.

I'm going to try out 100mbs uncappted Fibre package, no FUP. I'm currently on a 20mbs WISP. I might drop to 50mbs too, cause it's still more than double the current speed.

Yes you're right, 10mbs can easily stream 4k. I'm a ps4 gamer, buying digital games from PS store, hence I require the ultra fast speeds to quickly download an average 40GB game u know?

40gb is an overnight thing, even shorter. I understand the 100+gb games. Nobody wants to wait 1+ days. Games I play so far aren't that big yet.
