It's been going on all over the country (and the Western Cape) for months. See this link for coverage maps:

FAIK each major ISP will 'own' one of the conduits (6-8 smaller holes for fibres in each conduit).
Last month I saw them 'blowing' fibre down a hole with an air compressor - quite fascinating!
They were putting some in long ago down the main road by my dslam then 2 days ago there was a guy working on the dslam hope its part of 10 meg lines
Dont see any other reason to work on dlsam since its working perfectly getting up to/over 500 kb/s sometimes
The colours mean very little. Everyone is laying all sorts of different coloured ducts. Telkom has some orange and red ducts, Neotel uses blue in some places and DFA has entire rainbows inside their trenches.No-one has yet mentioned what the colours mean. I think everyone knows that orange is Neotel. I surmise that red is CellC.
Can't post pics in this sub-forum. only links to them...Post some pictures guys ...
The co-build Optic Transport Network (OTN) project comprises of the national long haul route, which will form a national optic fibre network for both MTN and Neotel, connecting it to the Gauteng area. The project has been almost equally divided into two parts consisting of allocated sections for Sanyai & Wavetech. The project consists of trenching and the installation of 8 x 32mm HDPE pipes with manholes every 1 km.
Vodacom also joined the co-build. My guess is that the purple pipes are spare (for now)Deffinately for Fibre and I suppose MTN and Neotel are identified. No great shakes. They should have done this ages ago before they increased their pricing![]()
