Fibre Price Survey

guys post some isp names or stuff ... i'd love something over 20m and 300g for around 800ish

I've posted about this connection many times in various threads.

into the building the contention is 1:10 and its shared amongst 40 users; voip, streaming and gaming ports prioritised- "business protocols"; 100mbps up and down

So at best its a 100mb connection and at worst its 2.5mb connection then.
FUP etc? surely there will be throttling or shaping involved at some stage if that many users are using it.

my speed test results are consistently over 80mbps

as I said previously, business protocols are prioritised- you can go crazy for as long as you want. My torrent speeds are not great but I can download off a website at close to 10MB/s as you can see from the screenshot.

I do not regard 40 as many users, I'm trying to sign up the entire building, which is 70 max, then I will most likely upgrade to 200mbps, for still R400pm. Max usage is around 60% of the available bandwidth, usually in the mornings between 6 and 8.

Personally I would like to pay R3k pm for 100mbps uncapped. Or R1000 for 1TB up to Gigabit. Prices should drop nicely over next 5-10 years.

Would have been great if you had posted this as a Google Form and then shared the charts :-)

In a survey I have done in Broadacres, the findings were:
- 80% wanted 50mbps, only a small portion wanted 100mbps.
- 60% would pay upfront for installation (if installation was less than 2,5K) and go month-to-month
- 30% would sign a 12 month contract (which would also absorb installation). Only 8% would sign a 24 month contract.
- 40% have a broadband budget of R499-R799, 40% have a broadband budget of R800-R1199/pm, 5% for more than R1200/pm
- 7% currently use VDSL, 43% use ADSL, 28% use mobile data
- 90% of respondents wanted open-access
- 100% of respondents wanted VOD (90% Showmax and 10% Netflix)

I personally would pay no more than 1,5K pm for 50mbps uncapped. My current 20mbps VDSL costs this and I would only swop to fibre if I get faster speed for the same cost. I also think that some fibre-providers are being dishonest by marketing FTTH, but it is really a wireless link.

And this is unrealistic but it would be great if a DSTV signal could be pushed through the line instead of satellite.

Installation cost - R0 if a 24 month contract, up to R500 for 12 month contract or up to R1000 for month to month

As for Vox having a R1710 installation cost with Telkom fibre on a 24 month contract they must be ****ing high.

Really?

Well, Frogfoot/LinkAfrica is installing the network, right? So, like with any Open Access solution, they will charge a line rental to the ISP's for delivering services over their network. I doubt they are charging themselves line rental for delivering services over their own network. So they will be able to "discount" their prices a little, because they are not paying as much as the other ISP's on the network do to give you a line with services.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think there is anything wrong with doing this. After all, kudos to them for taking the risk and making the capital investment to get the deployment off the ground. If one is the operator or owner of an open access network, you will always have slight advantage over other ISP's if you are delivering ISP services yourself. In the end it also help driving prices down, as the other ISP's will often try to match prices.
 
Vox will pay Frogfoot for access. Only advantage is potential margin benefit...

I know, but 25Mbps uncapped/unshapped @ 6k / pm are not quite FTTH prices :whistle: and I doubt anyone here would be willing to pay that (my 100Mbps office FTTB connection is 8K/pm in comparison)

Yea, mainly businesses but it's a trench anywhere product within coverage to whoever can afford :D

And precincts are half the price BTW where your office is so ~R6k for 100mbps uncapped 1:1 currently with max of 1:4.
