Hi all,

So i ordered fibre from mweb and they have sent me the standard fibre router that they have

I also have a Huawei B315 that i would prefer to use

Will the B315 work well or should I be getting a better router

i live in a flat so wifi connectivity not an issue and i also have a range extender if needed

The default Mweb one is quite rubbish, I just stowed mine away in the cupboard and used my existing EdgerouterX

I think the B315 can do PPPoE but not 100% sure if it will do the auth via the LAN as it's primarily a wireless gateway

EDIT: Mweb supplies the WR7010v2, which has Fast Ethernet 100mbps, Wireless N300 and not much else

You will need to log in to the router (usually 192.168.8.1) and then look around the settings for the dial-up configuration. You will need to change it to PPPoE and enter the username and password that Mweb will provide you with.

Like I said, I am not sure if it will then use the LAN as authentication because I suspect it can only use PPPoE via the wireless gateway. Someone with a B315 could hopefully chime in with their findings

From what i hear the Mweb routers are kak (but you know my opinion of mweb though)

I think you can use that 315 - not sure if its the same one but i set up one of my friends and it worked - i think it does have a Wan port (or lan 1 doubles as wan and lan)

Remove the sim.

Then on the left click on Ethernet then Click Ethernet Settings. Change the Connection mode from AUTO to PPPoE and enter the ISP PPPoE username and password you got. Click apply and you should be good to go.

ok not bad pricing

but thats the difference between these and huawei lte modems

other than settings

is the speeds better on these routers or what ?
The huawei doesn't have dual band or Mu-Mimo.
Dual band - you get 2.4 and 5ghz wifi
mu-mimo -not exact way to describe it but basically you do not have many devises sharing connection - each Antennae can connect to devices independently - most people wont notice but every wifi device takes turns to connect and use - so Mu-Mimo helps with this

and i just find that router pretty sturdy at less prone to connection issues - personal preference though.

If i were you I would use the Huawei and only if you having issues think of getting a new one - its a decent router for most people - do you have one with the back up battery ?
