Fibre: Secunda Community

Awesome look and feel guy, love the fact that theres a constant reminder to take the survey,

Good job will be one of the first to log on once it goes live

checked i out. i like it. can't think of anything to add. etc. the survey counter is it realtime?
Yes, it's linked to the survey itself

Website looks good except perhaps the white on white on the intro banner (A COMMUNITY DRIVEN PROJECT TO GET...)
Hmmm, it does have a shadow to make it stand out. Did your browser render it? Any way I toned down the background a bit to make it stand out more.

Thanks for the comments and support. I think it helped clean the website quite a bit.

Please spread the word about the initiative and the website. Based on feedback I will make it live late Sunday or Monday morning.

After that I need people with facebook and/or twitter to see how those buttons work. The Facebook button is a "like" button, I don't know how that's different from a "share" button so please give feedback whether I should change it to share or add a share.

I will be looking into a flyer or newspaper ad to help with awareness, but I need time to think/design (Anyone who's artsy or with experience in that sort of design please email me - Being artistic is not my strong point ;) - Only volunteers please, I can't pay anyone to help with design as well ).
I'll also look into the costs of printing and newspaper after getting this done.

Again the email is [email protected] that will be the preferred contact point for website related stuff.

[email protected] will probably be used for other general initiative related stuff.

A like will add it to a person's like list. A share will post it to their timeline and they can also tag other people in it. Likes are basically meaningless for spreading stuff.

Thanks Swa. I'll change it to a share button.

Thanks Hawky, looking much better now. Not one of my browsers renders a shadow (IE, Chrome or Firefox)

Does anybody know what Telkom is busy with for last couple of weeks?

They are "upgrading their infrastructure". They are just replacing some street cabinets

All I know is that whatever they're doing it's f**king with my Internet. Line syncing at like 2m down from 4.5m

Yep, it's supposed to be better but mine has never been this bad before (Just like their fancy dynamic spectrum thing)

It's a standard CSS property. If you are using those browsers then the only way it shouldn't be rendering is if you have custom style sheets.

It's a subtle property, maybe you're not noticing it ;) . It does makes a big difference with lower contrast text.

Here's a zoomed in picture. The white is the font, the black is the shadow.

Hello people,

1) I want to start contacting fibre players to get an idea of what sort of interest they would need before they'd look at feasibility or be interested themselves.
Please send me preferably email (PM is also ok for now):

a) Suggestions on fibre players I can approach. Don't be prejudiced, any and all providers can be on the initial "long list". At this point please leave your opinions on them aside, we'll evaluate later.
b) General contact information for the above
c) If you have had contact with a fibre player in the past, please send me the specific contact information of someone who's "in charge" as well as any information you previously received from said company.

2) I've had no contact from anyone volunteering to do something, so for now I will run with everything.
a) I'm assuming Alex$The$Alien will be controlling the Facebook side since he made the page (if I recall correctly) and I don't have a Facebook account. This would be stuff like sharing on the page and discussing with the big Secunda Facebook groups, etc.). Alex$The$Alien let me know if this is not possible.
b) To everyone: Please don't go on your own contacting vendors. I know you want to help, but I want to follow a standard approach so we can get the same information from everyone, rather send the contact details for now. (Also see point c) below )
c) If you want to help in some capacity please send me an email then we can discuss. Please be specific on what you want or can do, if you say "I'll do anything" it doesn't help me that much. I don't know what your skills or experience is.

Remember, if you volunteer you will have to offer up free time for no pay. If you are not 100% sure you want to or can do that, rather help by spreading awareness among friends, neighbours and colleagues. Someone "disappearing" for days or completely will really hurt our efforts.

Thanks to everyone's efforts in spreading the word so far. :)

Email address is: [email protected]

Yip, I see it, now I know what I'm looking for...

Looks good

Hawky

Is your website live? or still in build a bear mode?

I'll only start distributing the link as soon as you tell me to go forth and recruit le resistance!

I see quite a few Facebook shares.
Can someone please confirm that the button is working properly since I could not test it myself?
