Only DFA and Greencom have even bothered to reply with any information. Although Greencom has not replied after I asked some more questions.

Also the newspapers are still ignoring me as well. I want to give them money but I guess it's not controversial enough. I'll try again during this week.

That is just what I dont get. We may be far from any major city, but S.A's biggest national keypoint and major player in our economy is in Secunda. Why they keep sucking the cocks in joburg blows my mind. Maybe it just tastes better there ;)

It is more a matter of infrastructure. Remember, if the fibre provided you choose, have to use DFA as a backhaul to JHB for example, then they will have to pay a fee to DFA, this makes it more expensive for them, and increases the time to recoup the capital.

Secunda may have a major player in our economy there. But if you take the income from that major player, it still pales in comparison to what jhb has. That is why you must suck the cocks in jhb

I suspect it has a lot to do with sign-up/potential sign-up density. I think even 1000 may not be enough for Secunda.
I did a rough check using google maps. There's probably around 100-200km of road in Secunda (again, rough quick check).

Assume that infrastructure is around R500 p/metre (I am assuming this includes the fibre itself) you are looking at a R50mil to R100mil investment. Not chump change.

Let's assume all the 1000 people take a R1000 per month package. How much of your money goes to the ISP and how much to the line provider? Let's assume 50%, so R500.

Assuming R500p/month x 1000users you are looking at 500k per month. So that's a 8.5-17year payback period (assuming no further expenses)

Yes, there are a lot of assumptions. Users may (probably will) grow, but not everyone wants a R1000 package.

The point is, we need as many as possible people. I made it clear that the 500 is an initial goal based on 123net's statement. So far the fibre providers (apart from DFA) are turning a deaf ear to my "informal" requests.
