Fibre: Secunda Community

Good day Hawky.

Glad we have some more people doing some lifting in regards to the fibre project.

I have been in contact with cyber smart and I wanted to get a hold of you as well , please can we get in contact to discus a few things I can pm you my contact details or even speak on whatsapp ill pm you my number add me and we can talk.

I am one of the administrators on Secunda Facebook group who is advertising your website.

Thank you.

P.S The reason Cybersmart only requires 17 /15 sign ups is due to the fact they connect the fibre on a "street base" meaning if you can get 17 people in your street who agrees to the service you will get your fibre in 3 months guaranteed basically , they connect you to DFA link that is why Secunda is a "viable location" as per them.

Problem is we seem very spread out all over secunda. At the moment it will be difficult getting 17 people in the same Street to sign up

No we are not back to ffa. Hawky still runs the FTTH show, we give him support. I for one dont see the Cybersmart thing pan out. There is no formal communication about this. I will wait for conformation and all the fineprint to sign up. I cant see them requiring only 12-17 sighups when the rest wants 1000+. There is a catch.

There is formal communication. I have it on email

When you stream your entertainment 200gb is not enough.

I agree with that. however.. can you imagine what some people would do with an uncapped 400mb line?

If we had the option to take like a10mb/R599 20mb/R799 uncapped line, for that price i'd be fine with it. and the initial fibre cost

They are quite restrictive with the options by only having 400mb and capped

I agree. But they could make it 100mb up and down with a 500gb cap. That i can do. But those two options would not cover my needs.

@ Henry the reason why its so feasible is that its 17 users in a street or 17 users between you and the DFA link ( Link is the point on the cable closest to you and the DFA cable they just splice it in) , R10 000 uptake , installation cost which is R3000 once of , R1500 and 1 year contract or R0 over 2 year contract.

the R10 000 uptake is shared between the 17 users. Also you have to have DFA Fibre link close to you already! which we luckily have.

Remember other service provides lays their own fibre these guys just piggy back from the DFA link .

All in all its good I mean 400 meg line , now remember this includes up and down speed which you can adjust to something like , 390 down and 10 up as an example.

Packages are R599 for 20 gig day time cap and 200 gig night time cap from 1am to 7 am .

R899 for 200 gig day time cap and 1000 gig night time cap from 1am to 7am.

I mean its not bad if you really want fibre and you have 17 people around you who wants it as well.

That makes sense thank you for laying that out. Yea dfa cable is about 200m from my house so seem reasonable.
Things was not explained properly that is why I was sceptical.
Cant we get a Cybersmart guy in here to explain all the details so we can go knocking on doors with all the right answers to all the questions?

@ Henry you have a better chance of winning the fuking lottery.

P.S you can always just phone them 021 286 0127.

so if cyber smart think that we are a viable option then surely the owners of the cable will think we are a viable option as well, still waiting for the communication back fro DFA

i have friends in these complexes who have signed up on the website and discuss the fibre story with them in general, they are my contact to the body corporate. Your contact to Umuzi might be a lot more fruitful as the company that owns umuzi owns most of the complexes and flats in the town.
i can handle a tweet or an email here or there, in terms on communication if you need me to, I cant unfortunately offer much more than that in terms of time due to my schedule
I did email you my intention for the flyers though which i dont remember receiving a response via email, something we can do at a place like flyers.co.za that everyone can come take some and pop it into stores and post boxes to get everyone keen
In response to the cybersmart thing, seems cool but what if you not close to the DFA cable or you dont have 15-17 people interested on your line, our whole approach is to get the whole of secunda online not just a select few, I even have friends that want to sign up that stay in Evander

anyway hits me back

We can discuss, my email has been shared here a few times [email protected] . My ideal is still to get an open fibre network to Secunda which provides options to everyone in Secunda

I am not going to discourage anyone from trying to get fibre. For me the closed network and limited cap for Cybersmart will not work. I am using more than that on my ADSL at the moment.

Ok, that's fine I'll keep doing it. I'll see when I can have a face to face with some people from Body Corporates, probably after hours some time. If you can speak with your friends, maybe they can discuss it with their body corporates to get buy in.

I did reply to you with a draft flyer which I asked for your comments. I also posted it on this forum, but no one replied.

As I stated above, if someone wants to try Cybersmart I am not going to discourage them, it's their choice. For me it's not going to work.

With regards to Evander, that will be very difficult to "bundle" with Secunda since the potential uptake density is currently very low and far from Secunda. Even Secunda itself will probably be have to be split into "zones"

Guys,

Remember I am not the emperor of FTTH. I can't stop anyone from doing what they want. I am leading the initiative hopefully with everyone's support. The intention of the initiative is on the website (Going to various providers, select a provider based on their offerings, preferably open network) everything I do I keep that in mind.

Personally I want to get the best deal for Secunda. Any fibre might be better than no fibre, but I'd rather exhaust the options before locking people in with contracts to one provider. I know everyone is probably impatient, but things do take time. The survey is only at around 250 now. Rushing rarely gives ideal results.

@hawky Nvm I have decided to remove myself from the initiative , Hawky please pm your details so I can add you to the fibre secunda facebook group so you can spear head everything there as well. Otherwise we might and well close it .

@hawky358 Thank you for your dedication, the numbers will come as you have said before. rather late than sorry.

You got some skill more than others

Only DFA and Greencom have even bothered to reply with any information. Although Greencom has not replied after I asked some more questions.
I'll have to call the guys again this week.

This is the draft I have, but it feels off. Like I said previously I'm not artistic and I'm not in marketing so I don't know.

Also the newspapers are still ignoring me as well. I want to give them money but I guess it's not controversial enough. I'll try again during this week.

I like this

So what is the current situation here? I see people removing themselves from the initiative etc. Is every one jumping aboard the Cybersmart hype train or are we still waiting for numbers on the official site?
