Fibre: Secunda Community

I think that we need to try and target some of the areas that are not populated on the website. Best way is possibly through flyers and discussing with neighbours. Those that are in complexes are also best suited to get high density answers/support.

I think the momentum has been slowed after 123Net completely fell through. Damaging the whole initiative.

Came across an interesting firm. Metrofibre Networx for the initiative. Maybe they will be open to hearing our questions.

They don't provide a lot of pricing info on their website at the moment though. Maybe @Hawky358 it is best for you to contact them as opposed to each of us individually.

Metrofibre is an infrastructure provider. You need to engage with individual ISPs to know what pricing they'll charge over it.

theres digging in the ext 22 area from the telkom tower towards the main road, anyone know what telkom are doing?

Yes, I think 123net has really hurt people's "trust" of fibre. I get quite a few questions/complaints about 123net and why I haven't kept my promises ...

Word of mouth is the best. Will try the flyer / light post ad thing as well.

Yes, Metrofibre are on my list of providers. I will contact all the providers again just to "bump" them. Not many of them seem interested in low density / low proof of interest areas though.

Did you guys also get a email from dark fiber Africa? Seems they are getting interested. It seems to be a generic email. So I could post if if you guys are interested. I sent them an email a while ago

This is the contents of the email I got from DFA.:

We have created a new page where end users can easily ‘log their interest’ if they are interested in fibre. We are currently building a database to see where there is a high request for fibre in an area. If you are still interested, please log your interest via our web form at http://www.dfafrica.co.za/contact/interest. By filling out the form, you will be giving us permission to use the information to inform our planning team and to potentially provide this information to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that might consider rolling out FTTH in your area. We will let you know if there are any developments around FTTH in your area.

Thank you once again.

Sincerely,

DFA

Meh second night in a row telkom is letting me down, wonder why the network is down at night but up in the day. Hell not even getting a dailing tone on the telephone. At work now, so not too bothered but couldnt do anything on the net last night, and was down again before I came to work.... Hope they are doing the upgrades they bragged about.

The reality is. The investment is too big and the uptake too small to make this viable for now.

I dont know if i should say this but 123net has partnered with Mweb and Secunda may be on the cards again, but i rather kept quiet and waited for good news nothing yet so it could be all up in the air

I've said this before. Communities like ours won't be taken up by the larger providers any time soon. So I hope 123Net pulls through. Some people may call it blind hope. I see it as the only hope there really is.
