Fibre: Secunda Community

The website is still not updated. It would be nice to see how much to budget for if you want a slighly higher then 10meg line. Also what model mikro tik routers are you using, want to read up and do some research on it. And will the installation guys have routers on hand? How much will you sell the routers for if you sell them?

I spoke with Kalin yesterday about the website and he is redesigning the packages page this week. For the moment we will be offering 4 additional packages instead of "Gigabit MySpeed". We will probably launch Gigabit MySpeed later on down the line, but for now the packages offered will be Gigabit 10, Gigabit 20, Gigabit 30, Gigabit 40, Gigabit 50 and Gigabit 100. We are also looking into offering a budget-friendly package in the sub-R500 range for customers who want something better than the Free Internet package, but not as expensive as the R799 Gigabit 10 package. We're thinking maybe something along the lines of "Megabit 10", without local gigabit speeds. I will let you know when the new page is up with all the details.

I will also try and get some more info on the MikoTik routers for you as soon as I can. :)

Is there a possibility that 123Net can give some more details regarding the proposed plan to connect "blocks" in secunda? A plot plan or something so that we can understand when we can expect to be contacted/connected?

I wouldn't hold my breath. It is a don't call us, will call you situation, i.e. they will get to you when they get to you.

Yea been trying to get that info out of them for a while now, but its guarded like a national secret. But hey they said they will contact us so lets give them a chance. I live on the edge of town so I dont expect to be connected this year, but atleast will be able to see how others in Secunda find the network.

Is that the proposed area how far from it are you allowed to be? On the pic above im about a cm away from it that looks like the same orientation of the dark fibre line, is it? They would really be missing a trick if they dont cover the left side of x23, i drove through those houses last week and man oh man are they big..... we know what the implication of the statement is obviously, lol

Main question from my thread, how far from the proposed line are we allowed to be, as the eagle sees it im 1cm from it on the map

What is the current roll out number to Secunda and what is the time frame you guys envisage for the connection period, i think i saw 571 connections somewhere on this post

Kinda hyped myself to disappointment now knowing i have to wait

Is that the proposed area
It's not from an official 123Net source. It's possibly something @Myboom drew up in an attempt to get 123net to go there first. :)

I have a scientific paper that I will forward to you , that proves the best place to start is in Ext 23.

Unfortunately we can't publish maps or divulge our specific roll-out plans street-by-street, as this is proprietary information :)

123Net are rolling out to all the 1st stage signups. If you're signed-up they will roll out to you. If someone in that x23 area is signed up they will likely run along some of the streets there.

What we can say for sure though is that if you are in Secunda and have already signed up on our website, you will definitely be covered in the first wave of the fibre rollout. If others wait too long to sign up, they may have to wait a bit for coverage.

If you're not signed up yet, you will need to be on a street which is covered to be connected "quickly" otherwise until they roll out on your street. (So you need to have a line running in your street)

Latest quotes:

Don't panic! If your cell number and email address are correct, then we will confirm your physical address when we contact you....Just remember guys, there are 570 Secunda signups in total.

Good evening JvanD,

Construction will start near the end of September and by mid-October we hope for our backhaul link to Jhb to be lit and our first customer to be connected. New customers have about 3 more months to decide if they want to sign up and be included in this "first wave". After 3 months from now, all new signups will have to wait for our "second wave", which will be 2016. :)

The first customer that we connect will be the one that is closest to where we start trenching from ;) The rest of the customers will be connected over the weeks and months following. I will try to get an update regarding where our digging will start from for you guys.

What plan is this on the map you used?
@Myboom ?

At this stage what I can tell you is that our fibre will start rolling out from an area close to the mall ;)

Oh my lord , time to move my Fibre plans to Easter 2016 , this will take an enormous amount of time before they come close to my house.
