Fibre: Secunda Community

Seriously? I hope Sasol told her to #@$! off with the mall story. But then again, it is an anc run municipality, what can we expect...

The mall is jointly owned by Resilient and Sasol Pension fund, but yeah both parties including the minor partners told her to climb her tree.

So my telkom line went down yesterday.. after logging a call I received a phonecall to make an appointment for 1pm

sat there on the porch for an hour. just to never see the telkom van..

Please 123Net. save me from this horrible starvation of real internet as soon as possible.

I know right.... we begging now, it makes us look very desperate .... reality is we are very desperate ....... Has 123net received many contract requests

I chose the Gigabit 40
It feels like most picked Gigabit 10
Why?
I will actaully SAVE money.

This thread was started end May. 6 months from then is November. When I brought this up however nobody wanted to believe me.

2 weeks on and concerns regarding stipulations in the contract seems to be neglected. Meanwhile I see 123net posting away on facebook and twitter about tweets being sent from outer space. What nonsense. Mybroadband is the primary channel in South Africa to connect with people regarding internet, yet, as of late its been very quiet from 123net after the contracts were E-mailed on Oct 1st despite the community on here being quite vocal about it.

Support said that the CEO, Kalin would be in touch here to address the concerns. He couldn't at the time because he was on flights, meaning no internet for him to communicate with on the airplane. Flight around the world? I am just waiting for clarification before I send in my contract. However, I think my contract will get lost anyway when I E-mail it to them or by then it will be to late for the 1st wave installation in Secunda. I don't think they appreciate scrutinizing customers giving negative feedback. Maybe they are content with at least 300 contracts?

Not that I don't find the contract terms of concern, but these aren't things you just run through. There's also usually a back a forth between lawyers involved. Mybroadband is not the primary avenue for all things internet related.

The contract we got seems pretty run through. What is the primary avenue if not mybb?

I'm just saying that you put more importance on mybb than it's worth. They really aren't important in IT itself. You want the official channels Twitter and Facebook is where all companies go.

As for the contracts I would be more concerned if they responded without addressing all the concerns. At least they know of the situation.

You maybe right on my view of mybb's importance but when someone in South Africa does an Internet related search on Google I am fairly certain mybb will be at the top of the page. I am not looking to pick a fight with you. I agree on what you said about them having to respond thoroughly regarding the contracts. I hope your right. People are getting frustrated though. I think Henry.de.kock. repeatedly requested information from 123net in this thread regarding the microtik routers and that also went without an answer. I don't remember the question but I don't think it would be hard for them to answer?

At this stage I think they have a bit too much on their plate. I am just gonna give this time, since I lost all hope that it would happen this year. I agree with you VEdeLange and fully commend 123net for getting this far in such a short space of time.

I still think that they are busy with their lawyers trying to sort out their contracts, and have been advised not to make any further comments or give any dates till that has been sorted. It could also be that they decided f@#$ it and just left our sorry little impatient buggers to struggle with uselesskom. I really hope not though.

I will still check in every day to see if they sorted through the heap of work they had and have some updates for us.
GL 123net hope to hear from you soon.

Methinks some people expect too much too soon(myself somewhat included)

You can't expect a seed to become a fully grown oak tree within a short amount of time.
although I am pretty over the total lack of telkom's support/service. at least I have internet access until the fibre lands.

Let's just give them time to do what needs to be done. Rome was not built in a day. Neither does fibre fall from the heavens and connect itself. Lets just play some guild wars 2 and the time will pass

Ok, I think its important to stay rational.

A month waiting period after the contracts were sent out isnt unrealistic. Just to give everyone time to opt-in or out is reasonable.

I just wish the 123Net rep would maintain the stellar communication we have experienced up to the contract being distributed.
What is the current count on contracts received. Just like the initial application we can convince our fellow Secunda mates to sign a contract if needed. But I know that alot of people have said they will wait and see what other users think of the service before committing to sign.

So obviously that option flies out of the window if 123Net does not get enough sign ups - which will prompt the people on the fence to sign.

But this is mere speculation without official feedback from 123Net. Common guys, retain your hero status and talk to us.

Come on Alex, you can do better than that. I was hoping for another animal analogy :)
Guild wars 2 looks awesome, I wish it were available on console. I'm looking forward to playing some the evil within this weekend.

Yeah we probably should give 123net more time, it's not knowing anything concrete that's frustrating.

My point is they have time for drivel on Facebook/twitter.

I still think that they are busy with their lawyers trying to sort out their contracts, and have been advised not to make any further comments or give any dates till that has been sorted.

I would be happy if they just said so. Could such a statement open them up to opposing legal action?

I'm done barking up this tree. If 123net comes down, I'm all ears, until then let bygones be bygones.

Hi guys, sorry for the delay in responding - things have been very very busy our side..

Kalin is thinking of broadcasting a live Google Hangouts session to address all contract queries. I will let you guys know as soon as he has confirmed this with a date & time. On that subject though, it is worth mentioning that currently, the biggest delay in starting trenching is the lack of contracts that have come back to us. We have only received around 130 signed contracts or so, and we were expecting much more than that. Our investors will not let us commence unless enough of Secunda's signups actually materialize into contracts.

To respond to an earlier comment, the Facebook / Twitter team is completely separate and independent to the MyBB team, and all other teams (trenching / planning etc).

The two routers we will be offering are the Mikrotik Hap and the Mikrotik 951. Pricing has not been confirmed yet. We plan to offer the Hap for free on 24-month contracts.

Sit tight guys, there's a lot for us to deal with right now and I promise we are doing our best!

Oh and one thing I was able to confirm recently is that once your contract is signed and a date has been set for installation, the applicable construction fee must be settled before the date of install. Once you are connected, you have up to 14 days to begin paying your subscription.

Bear in mind guys, we have lawyers and investors who sometimes have more of a say in things than we do, but we feel this is still more than reasonable :)
