So yes 123net is not a myth - they do exist :)

123net provides the box to convert from fibre to ethernet.

Lan1 > PC

you can skip the router and plug straight into your pc if you dont want a router.

This is my International speed test for more information - For anyone interested form DBN to league of legends west im getting 170-175 ping where on my 10mb adsl i was getting 200-210.

Local server Battlefield 4 im getting 8-14ms.

What sort of box did they put outside and how large is it?
I guess for a complex they probably have a central point from where it is distributed?

Each floor i believe has a box (I have not seen the actual box outside yet) and then they just route the cable to your spot from there.
 
i heard rumours (cant reveal source unfortunately) that mweb have or are busy signing up with 3 new companies to roll out fibre... 123nets name was mentioned. source wasnt sure though, so all speculative i suppose but he hasnt been wrong to date with other remarks he has made. so now they will have four companies apparently
 
I don't want Telkom, mweb or anything else. I want 123Net. No middle man to eat into everything. If it has to be a middle man, then Afrihost.

Yeah, no middle man would definitely be preferable but I will go with whatever gets the ball rolling as long as the stated prices on 123net's packages stays relatively the same. However I don't have hopes for Afrihost, they are owned by Mtn and with the billions worth of fines Mtn got they might be a sinking ship.

Hi there, also in umhlanga connected with 123net.

Are you getting the 900mbps + speeds when connected directly to your pc or running through your router? If so what router are you using.

We get 100mbps speeds with our Asus dsl68u router, 400mbs with the Mikrotek router 123net gave us but only get the 900mbps speeds when plugged directly into the pc, ie by passing the router.

That sounds about right. Speeds are limited by the technology in between connections. the ports on the router are 100mb the microtik has faster ports and the direct connection is 1gbps

except my asus is a gigabit router, so should be able to get the full 900mbps like the direct link then.

will give it a bash, want to try fiddle around with the router settings a little more first, but why would the mikrotek be giving 400mbps when the asus gives 100mbs, same cable?
 
Different routers have different processing power or methods to accelerate NAT.

That is a good question. May be settings on the router and mikrotik.
