Fibre: Secunda Community

Is there a counter for surveys completed?

Yes, it will be on the website. For now the counter is 14.

I do have an outline for the website, but I still need to populate it with content. So it won't be live just yet.

I am using some existing websites as a base for the information. Still need to work through it a bit and get it to fit into the Secundafibre website style.

If you have any ideas for content you on the website which you think can help, please PM or email me. If you do send me ideas please don't just say "Explain fibre" , send me your formatted write-up explaining fibre which I can use as a base.

Email address is [email protected]

Hello people,

Please send me a PM or email if you want to have a look at the site so long and give inputs.

There is probably still a lot to do, but please help with comments so I can add things to my list.

I have spoken to the VUMA guys. I believe you have contacted them. They are aware of Secunda.

No Promises!!

What happened in Blairgowrie? Reading that power went off for longer than a week?

Nope, not exactly the case. While busy with the last 10% of trenching, they hit a MV cable (Which due to time, was not as deep as plans indicated), which city power didn't fix, which blew. was last week monday. Power went out from 15:45 till about 3:40am (thanks CP)

On the Tuesday, they hit another MV cable (6m from where the plans indicate, and on 600mm deep, they should be at 1.2m deep) power went off again from about 15:58, in some areas, till the next morning.

Wednesday, CP switched off the power at 16:00, to fix the two MV cables, this was completed at about 7am on Thursday

VUMA also stopped trenching on Wednesday

Friday, joburg water hit a MV cable, which put power off again.

Saturday, at 22:50 due to rain, a cable that was nicked on on 29 January, which City Power didn't fix then, blue, this put Blair out till 7am Monday

Long and short of it, yes, Vuma did hit cables, they communicated well, and also had a town hall meeting to apologise. CP took forever to fix faults

Crikey. City Power dont know where their own cables are?

This happens quite often. The wayleaves are not always accurate, especially municipality, so sometimes companies hit services.

Luckily it seems that the Sasol wayleaves and the indicating posts are very accurate.

I personally know people who do trenching and what I said was that it happens quite often that municipalities do not know where their cables (or pipes) are.
The reason trenching companies often hit these cables or pipes is because the wayleaves (the wayleaves include an underground services map) are showing stuff which is somewhere else.

From the same source it seems that Sasol wayleaves (which indicate gas and petrol pipes etc.) are very accurate. The poles (or pipeline markers - those concrete poles that are above the pipes) are also accurate. So it is lucky because it could be trouble if you hit that. I just thought it was relevant/interesting since we are in Secunda.

Ah ok. Yes Sasol has to be accurate with that since it will almost certainly cost lives if a pipeline is struck.

Sure went quiet round here...
Do we have a go-to guy already for all the communication etc?

Like the comment from DERoestorf that Vuma is aware of us...... just wish they were more then just aware....

Yeah, must say I am lucky to live in JHB. But you never know, VUMA wants to grow their network aggressively. But even so, may take a couple of years, unless ceo makes a decision.
