I'm trying to get SFP module to plug in to a Mikrotik RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN
My fiber is via Evotel. I was advised to get a Mikrotik SFP Module S-85DLC05D
Phoned Coolideas and was informed that it should work.

Mainly and probably going to be like this untill the end, I'm unsure about the above even though I placed the order and tried to confirm from the service provider.
Guess my fears would only be really settled when I have it plugged in and it is working.
Just so little information on this type of setup when trying to search around..

We don't advise people to use fibre modules :), Evotel will install an ONT and you use copper from there.

Noted...
But I want a single Mikrotik device, resulting in having to use a SFP module that plugs into the device.
Current setup has the huawei fibre router going into a Mikrotik RB750 that manages my network. But this Mikrotik is only a 10/100 connection. The RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN is an upgrade to my internal network.

Not sure who advised you to get a Multimode SFP module. This will not work, not least because the fibre is Single Mode and the provider uses a single fibre (this requires two fibres for TX/RX).

If anything, this is the module you need: https://mikrotik.com/product/SFPONU (It's been discontinued, as has the one from Ubiquity). And that said, Evotel does not support these and haven't tested to see if they work.

Ask your ISP to get the Huawei provisioned in L2 mode (basically the ethernet port is now a passthrough), mount it neatly on the wall and pretend it's not there. Connect a CAT6 LAN cable from the ONU to your Mikrotik router and request the PPPOE credentials from your ISP. This means your Mikrotik has a public IP and the ONU is just a big fibre converter.

Was about to ask why a MM module when Websquad beat me to the punch

Im using the 3011 with a glorified fibre cpe box, does the job

Thanks, I'm trying to reduce the device count while still having the Mikrotik router. Would be easier to add battery backup to it...
I thought the Multi-mode would be wrong... And seems to be confirmed.
Currently I am using a Huawei HG8045H as a glorified ONU/fibre modem plugged into an old Mikrotik.

Current plan would be to swap out for a SM SFP in the hope it works, failing that I would have to switch back to using the Huawei as a ONU with the new Mikrotik.

It's not a choice, and it's GPON so you would use a PON module if it was an option. Unfortunately it's part of the deployment, and realistically makes no difference apart from an additional device.

Thing is Evotel runs a GPON network. So even a single mode SFP won’t work. They actually provision that ONU onto their network in a fairly closed ecosystem. So you don’t have a choice.

For battery backup, go to Regal. Grab a 12v PSU with battery backup (they have these for cameras) and hook that up to your MikroTik and the CPE- you’ll get a good 3-4 hours out of this.

Communica sells these bad boys dirt cheap compared to retailers

I am with Cool Ideas, fiber from the street to corner of the house, ethernet from there through the roof to the other side where the study is, and a Mikrotik RB95g which maintains the pppoe connection to Cool Ideas.

I ended up keeping the Huawei router as the OTN rather than trying to get a SFP, plugged into the Microtik to manage the dailup & firewall.
