Fibre

Where do you stay? seems like the whole of PMB is slowly getting fibre here as I see contractors laying Fibre everywhere.
A very middle class suburb called Grassy Park, located in Cape Town. We recently got VDSL, so I guess there's hope :D
Also what's PMB?

Yes I am TelkomZA says that is all I can get right now until they upgrade the mini dslam down the road.

Surely if I can get 5 megs I should get at least 8 megs, I also use g.dmt right now as I can't get adsl 2+.

Some of those blue boxes called mini dslams can only do 4 meg regardless of how good your line stats are.

The issue is with the backhaul to the minidslam. Not the protocol used.

At least you got a 25% speed upgrade.

We don't have blue boxes they are big grey ones with two cabinet doors.

Probably is, but I know the area next to me gets 10 megs+ on the same exchange, but uses a different mini dslam in Taunton road.

This is our cabinet

Very lucky bud, I just had Telkom come out now and explain to me the my stable 8mbps which I was getting for the last 2 years is impossible and that 4mbps is even pushing it. So a stable sync at 3mbps is best effort now.

Do what you already know, pop TelkomZA a message here [Charl filler :p] ....

Charl is on holiday until next year but Terrick is there, also very helpful.

Did you speak to your area's Telkom network manager, the one here replaced my cable from the pole to the house when I was experiencing similar problems and found a break in the cable?

Yeah I spoke to everyone, 3 different Telkom stations around my area/ online. They say my area will have fibre in March but whatever Telkom says is x + 14 months.

But anyway, I dont want to derail your thread bud. Goodluck with getting your fibre connection sorted.

I hope so just got back from Durban and I see they have finished installing it now, my line stats right now, hasn't changed.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 5.5 db 5.0 db
Noise Margin 21.0 db 27.0 db

Why would your ADSL line stats change just because fibre is available in your area? It's a separate network.

Telkom FTTH was installed in my suburb quite quickly. Started beginning of October, and finished up on Tue this week.

Not talking about physical installation, but the entire process.

Keep reporting a fault every week then eventually they will get tired of it and help.

Cause surely one can't put fibre on an old outdated network without upgrading it first?

Looks like they busy installing fibre in the streets nearby now connecting to mine, hopefully once they done they will finally upgrade the mini dslam.
