Do you work for Suzuki? Or just own a Swift? No hate, you just seem to like them as much as I like Honda :D
 
TBH I love alfa's- suzuki is great value for money - why spend an extra 40-60 k

I'm afraid the Civic has the same excitement value for me as a Corolla - damned nice "grey" car to drive - don't know if I could ever get used to that backside view, but I'm not the buyer! ;)
 
That white civic is a great buy as well would probably be my second choice

True to a point, I wouldn't call it Corolla boring, but it's closer to boring than exciting. It's not something crazy and cool (like a Civic Type R for example ;)) but it get's the job done and should tick all of the OPs boxes without breaking both parts and wallet (ala BMW) or being a tiny repbox that will only last 250,000kms before giving up (ala Fiesta Ecoboost).
 
The Swift isn't bad at all - thought it was a 2 airbag jobby.

Btw the Ecoboost comes out with 2 standard, or 7. The titanium comes with 7. The real world consumption is around 5.5 from what I've been able to gather online.

Does anyone have first hand experience with any of these cars?

That's silly Wong. Already driven the Ford and the BMW. I enjoy both a lot, I was hoping to find someone more in depth experiences on either of them - I know the Ecoboost has only been around for 6 months, which makes it a little tougher.

I've test driven the Swift (both regular and Sport - the Sport is massive fun) and drove a variety of Civic's before settling on my Accord. Civic Diesel feels like it has more poke than the lot (especially at altitude). A friend has a 118i (2011 model IIRC) which I've spent time behind the wheel of.

My only experience with a Fiesta Ecoboost is some guy trying his luck around town, the Accord put him in his place quite quickly.

To put it into perspective:

We have two Accords in the family. The SOs mother has one (2006 Type S) with 22x,xxx kms on the clock. The only money they've ever spent outside of brakes and tyres was R5,000 on a power steering hose that was leaking. This was actually supposed to be replaced on a dealer bulletin, but the dealer didn't do it in time so it was out of their own pocket.

My Accord is currently on 105,xxxkms, also a 2006 Type S. According to the history of the car the hose mentioned above was done on a dealer bulletin, and the clutch was replaced to get rid of a squeak under warranty at around 90,000kms. Other than that no issues to speak of.

Parts are expensive when something breaks, but things don't break often (if ever). My last service (105,000kms, paid for by the dealership I bought the car from) cost just shy of R3,000. R1,500 of that was for spark plugs alone (the Accord uses "unique" sparkplugs). But with me doing between 10,000kms and 15,000kms a year, servicing is an annual event so R3,000 isn't much at all. Also Honda wanted to charge me over R10,000 for front and rear brakes and discs (excluding labour) which is madness, the alternatives (ATE, Ferodo, Powerbrake) etc. are either much cheaper, or similarly priced but with much better lifespan.
