Fiesta - Reliability vs Corolla - High Risk

Would you mind to give a source for that. Would like to read up on the difference between this and the DSG.

It was actually recently discussed here in another thread but I can't seem to recall what it was called now.

Basically the Powershift on the cheap models uses a dry clutch system with very low torque applications and it's not great.

The higher torque systems use a wet clutch which is much more similar to the DSG.

Good start here...

"The PowerShift gearbox is a joint development between Ford, Getrag and Luk and was first introduced in Europe. Both Volvo and Ford use wet clutches and hydraulic actuation.[3][4] However, the new PowerShift gearbox used in the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus uses dry clutches and electric motor/solenoid actuation.[2] Some have criticized the PowerShift's rough starts and lack of smooth shifting, but Ford has continually released (but not publicized) upgrades to transmission software and firmware designed to address these concerns.[5]"

Seen many reports of the same dry clutch gearboxes having plenty of issues, but can't exactly point you to a source.

But it's cheap and unrefined, that much is a given.

Normal driving it's very good, but the example I test drove is no match for VW's dsg, at WOT it's jerky and gear changes are very pronounced, whereas with my car with your foot flat on the throttle the gear changes are smooth and almost instantaneous. Thanks for the link, will read up a bit later this morning.

By the way, Audi and VW Cars with a 1.4 TSI/TFSI and 1.6TDI or smaller engines use the DQ200 DSG gearboxes, which use dry clutches.

However DSG gearboxes are plagued with problems.

I've also heard a lot about DSG problems, and my car already sits on just under 80 000km problem free. Does this occur at higher mileages or only on certain cars?
