I have tried this and never had a response. I do have the cell number of a SAPS maj-genl on my phone but will only use it when everything else fails and the situation really is life-threatening.
Recently, sms was sent to the flying squad when a stash of drugs was discovered but we never had a response.

in my area we use Whattapp to communicate if someone is in trouble.
