Yesterday while at the spares shop I remembered that a few months ago someone told me the one brake light is out.

It needs a special tool and I bought a set of that Hex Allen key thingies as well as globes.

Get home, undo the light fittings and want to replace the globes. To my surprise the globes are fine . I ask the laaitie to push down on the brake and no and behold, brake lights are not working at all. When I put on the main lights the back lights work just not the brake lights. Checked the fuses and all are fine. I suspect there must be some kind of brake switch at the pedal. Similar to the switch I have on my bike. I suspect that might be busted. Any idea where it's located? Maybe something else that could cause this?

I think it's an easy fix so your assistance is appreciated. If all else fails I'll take it to Ford.

So not even the centre brake light comes on?

Is it the 1st model or the facelift?

Have you checked at the brake pedal shaft to see if there is any kind of switch?

Nope also doesn't come on at all.

No idea, It's the 2012 model. Last payment end of next month :)

I haven't yet. Figured I'll ask before I break my back trying to get in under the steering wheel to check. I'm pretty sure it needs such a switch, just not sure where it will be located. I'll try google and see fi I find anything.

Looks like I'll have to break my back to get it out.

I think before I do, I'll find out what these switches go for. I might as well have Ford do it then...

2012 was the switchover year, so that doesn't help, if the indicators and reverse light is next to the rear window, its pre-facelift, if the rear/brakes are next to the rear window, its the facelift.

Congrats!

Eish that's confusing :o

It has that whole light fitting with all the light in it next to the boot lid. Brake lights at the bottom. Then revers light and indicator up top iirc.

Had the same problem on my Kia Picanto last month - was the brake switch on the pedal. Don't know how it compares to the Ford but it took 5 mins to replace, not too difficult but had to get in awkward positions :-)

Was R190 at the agents, Midas had one for R50 less but it didn't look quite like the original one so I didn't want to take the chance.

The brake light switch sits at the top of the brake pedal on these. Follow the pedal, you will see a release to break circuit type switch that presses against the pedal stay, just bend the plate to manipulate the function as desired.

I give this advice, assuming that you have checked all your fuses, those should be behind a panel to the right/below steering wheel.

Basically where your right knee is when you are sitting in the driver seat (If it is the same as the Fiesta that it is based on...)

Yea nope. It's the other way round :)

Thanks Now I learned something. Ours also has the boot key thingy still. I see most of the new ones have it removed

No, only the Trend has it removed (has remote locking) vs the Ambiente, the Trend can also be recognised by the chrome strip above the number plate, the colour coded door handles and mirrors, the chrome on the grill area and the alloy wheels.

Yea, check the fuses (On the Figo they are behind the glove box). You need to pop out the glove box and the fuses are there. It's either a wiring issue now (HIGHLY unlikely or that brake pedal switch. I'll get inside there tomorrow morning and have a look.

Ours also have remote locking. But has a button for the boot inside the car. And if needed the keyhole to open the boot from outside. The boot latch is on the key hole though. You can't open it by a lever or button. You need to unlock it from behind for it to pop open. Assuming your outside. Inside you just press the button.

Does the trend unlatch the boot via a button? Bleh, maybe time for an upgrade then :D

Without having to strain my back I felt for the switch quickly and it's located on the front side of the pedal so should be easy to remove. I haven't looked at it yet. But will feedback tomorrow on how it went.

I was worried that it's going to take hours and I'll have to remove the seat to get in there nicely. But by the quick feel it seems to be very reachable to should be quick.

My Ambiente boot can also unlock via inside button in the car, thought they had removed it (the key hole on the Trends) because the remote locking can unlock the boot, like in my mothers Polo Vivo, by unlocking it twice in quick secession remotely

I think we also have an Ambiente but with central locking added as an extra. I'll have to check. Wife bought the car when I bought the Bike.

My trend has a boot button on the key that needs to be double pressed to open the boot and a button to the right of the steering wheel. There is no key in barrel type lock on the boot.
