Hi All,

Can anyone direct me to some good 3rd Party software (preferring freeware) that will allow me to:

- Encrypt a folder and the contents thereof
- Password protect the folder and contents thereof
- If possible, can be used on both Windows and Linux platforms (just a nice to have)

Basically, I need to distribute files to several people, but these files needs to be as secure as possible and one should be able to open these files on any computer, provided you have access to the password and/or encryption file. Windows Encryption seems not to be the answer since:

- I don't trust MS
- Encrypted files can only be accessed in the Computer where it is encrypted provided you log in with the correct user name
- If the PC fails, the files cannot be opened on any other PC.

Any suggestions?

What he said - I've been using truecrypt for ages. Its definately the best open source encryption software around.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but...

Can Truecrypt do just one file? That you can then decrypt on another machine? Taking a very brief look at the docs, it looks like you have to up a secure container, etc, which seems a bit complex just to encrypt a file that I can send from my home email address to my work email address.
