Filter coffee question by a beginner !

Your coffee machine should have come with instructions... I suggest taking it back to the place you bought it from and complain that it was opened and not in it's entirety when you bought it.

this is the problem with adding brown sugar to a quality pulled shot, it alters the taste
Sugar alters the taste full stop. Brown sugar just alters it differently. You even get coffees like Café Cubano that specify brown sugar.

to the seasoned coffee drinked, yes you will notice white as well. but to the noobs they wont :D

I love coffee :)

bottom line is that if the shot is pulled correctly, you wont have any bitterness at all. So no need for sugar, especially if you having a latte with the correct microfoam and temp

its complicated :)

Not really. You should have whatever you like in your coffee.

this^, black coffee, organic brown sugar

for those criticising brown do you know what chemical are used to make refined white? scary shit

Do yourself a favour and get yourself a coffee plunger. I have a small one that makes one mug/cup and its my morning routine - when I get to work I have my plunger coffee. Much easier to clean than having to clean out pots and filters and also tastes a lot better than the coffee that most cheap/mainstream coffee peculators can make. Just be sure not to buy filter coffee that is too fine otherwise it gets past the filter and makes your coffee speccy. Woolies tells you on the side of their coffee packets if its suited for plungers or not.

I'd personally recommend the Aeropress. http://quaffee.co.za/Pages/products/CoffeeEquipment.aspx

I made my first cup of plunger coffee yesterday. Went over to checkers and picked up a bag of Dark Roast - House of Coffees VIP Blend. Put in 2 cups of water and 2 scoops of coffee - let it brew for 4 minutes - 2 spoons sugar and milk. Was really good! Completely unexpected. I wish they came in smaller bags tho - is gonna take me forever to finish the one bag and i want to try other roasts haha.
