Hi folks

I have made a final submission to ICASA on behalf of MyADSL and its members. Thanks a bunch to Lewstherin for his excellent summary of the main issues. His report summed up most of the feedback received and I used it nearly unchanged! I would also like to thank each and every member that helped to make this hearing a reality and ensured that our voice was heard at the actual proceedings. This was certainly a magnificent team effort. To me it is a privilege to be part of this great online community!

Regards,

RPM

Many thanks to RPM and his band of merry moderator men for having the vision to found MyADSL...I believe this ICASA action is a landmark for SA consumer rights movements.

Let us hope that which Telkom seeks to control access to - the Internet, with its freedom of information, collaboration and sharing of ideas - will be the very thing that successfully forces Telkom to understand what it means to be patriotic and supportive of the country that gave birth to it.

My only question is "Where to from here?". We have built up much momentum in the past few weeks...lets direct it somewhere?

BIG hearty thanks to both of you, you most certainly set a precedent for the South African consumer. I commend you for NOT being apathetic, like most of us, and taking the fight to telkom.

Transfer some of the energy into the various "Consumer Unions" to launch the same process regarding the cost of telephone calls, especially local calls.

Hi Lewstherin

This is definitely only the beginning. There is a long road ahead to ensure that we get world class broadband services at internationally comparative rates. One of the avenues to address this issue is government (parliament and related committees in specific). I can confirm that one party has already indicated that they are willing to push this issue in parliament etc. Unfortunately I have agreed not to publish any correspondence on the site without their consent, but as soon as something concrete is in place I will give feedback. I think many other parties will also follow suit when they see this is a hot topic.

I also think there will always be broadband issues to address, like the current situation with iBurst. We have certainly become a significant voice in the broadband arena, and we must use this voice to improve the current broadband situation in South Africa. Having said all of this, the most important thing that all of us should do is simply to make our voices heard on this forum! Many people read this forum and make their decisions based on other member’s feedback. This is true consumer action! We also know that all the broadband companies read MyADSL, so the feedback is always of great value.

I sound like a preacher…enough :D

Regards,

RPM

Who cares about voice, give me data or give me death !

Thanks a million RPM for your outstanding contribution to this forum! :) I'm glad that you're aware of what WBS has done to it's iBurst customers.

To those that don't know, WBS suspended some accounts this morning without warning  . Yes, you said it, another Sentech! :p

Well now my first reply on this forum, mmm interesting everything thats been going on here I've probably read all the posts and threads up to getting bored with some but I must say u people are doing a great job thanks a lot for that RPM, BTTB Debbie2 and all the others fighting for our consumer rights in this monopolistic capitalistic money sucking world we live in these days Iv'e grown so tired of all the crap that has been going on with all the giants in business these days, take the SPERMCOUNTS,
(D)HELL's, COMAPQ's, MICROCRAP and many others just doing with us as they please but well i am rambling now, maybe something for another discussion. Just wanted to say thanks guys for the excellent work and all your time you people put into making things better for us all I SEE SOME LIGHT ! Just one more thing I read an intersting post the other day which sets out the 3G cap divided by the speed of your connection and in actuality you are not receiving a full say 512k p/day actually only 3G divided by 30 (days) divided by 512k = something ridiculous like 1.93k/s connection thus you are not getting the bandwith nor the usage of what you are paying for could this be pointed out also.

For the record, RPM started this movement! We all just fell in behind him, mods included.

:)

RPM for president!

Yes, we can all take our hat off to RPM for a job well done. :)

If we make him President, we might never see him anymore as he might be jetting off all over the world. :D
President of MyADSL, definitely!

Hi guys

Thanks for the kind words, but MyADSL is certainly a team effort. This site’s success is due to its loyal members and not a single person…this is what makes this place so great! It is a true online community rather than a basic website, where the members make decisions regarding the site and the direction we should take. It is truly a site owned by its members…true democracy I guess. Unfortunately there will always be a few poor schmucks that must do the ‘dirty work’ like design, moderation, press releases etc, and that is where the admin team comes in. Thanks a bunch to all of the mods…the moment that I become president you are all certain of cabinet positions :D

In short: Thanks to each and every member of MyADSL. We have come a very long way since 2003, and there are simply too many names to mention (over 3600 to be exact!).

Regards,

RPM

Congrats on the great work you and the team are doing rpm.

What I like especially about the site is that it proves that South Africans can actually be activists and make their consumer voice heard.

I'm simply amazed at what you achieved in terms of the ICASA hearings and even if they don't have an immediate success in terms of slowing Telkoms Gravy Train, at least the awareness level has been raised dramatically.

It feels good to visit here and see so many people trying to make our broadband situation better for all South Africans !

I love to be a "poor schmuck* and I am proud of it and this place and of all you guys.

I found here a place, were my somehow limited life lived up again. Thanks for that to all of you!

Handout - did I hear a handout ?
rpm - when you're president, can I be minister of transport - please, please ?
It hides behind the bush - it jumps out, and stops that smoking slow truck. It does NOT point a radar at anything.

lol :D - ha ha ha...
Hat's off to RPM + team + MyADSL... :D As I'm new to this forum, I can't accept any credit... :o I guess if for some unknown reason this was GOV cruel plan to change the average SA from a position of complacency, then I'm proud to inform them that they succeeded! it's an epidemic...

I propose We carry the momentum to scrutinise the high costs of local calls and dial-up costs

Dream team (consumers +ISPs) will join force again .This time we can send 4460 complaints - this IS realistic since there are(at least) 10 times more dial-up Internet users than broadband users currently.

or

I suppose if broadband becomes more affordable,as a result of this ICASA hearing ,We can leave the task to the SNO
