After a neverending struggle with vodacom and my contract application I finally got my iPhone 3G!I didnt want to wait for the 3G S as there are minor changes to it that does not justify the price tag at all, sure the extra rom and and new graphics card would be nice but I mean come on to pay thousands of rands extra for this comfort is just unjustifiable im a patient guy and I can wait a few extra seconds for something to load and spend the extra cash on iPhone accessories.

Anyway I havent switched it on as yet is there anything I should know or do to enhance its performance, stability, battery life etc?Other than jailbreaking it.

Also with the battery should I kill it first then charge it?and for how long therafter.

Well there aren't really many tips. Just charge your battery for 12 hours after a complete discharge (phone must switch off on it own) and turn push off for email. That's what I dd and it works for just over 5 hours of constant usage which is excellent battery life

as for jailbreaking, in my personal opinion it's a waste of time, especially if u put OS 3.0 on. Buy a cover to protect your shiny new toy! Lol
oh and I guess you ahouldsign up for an account at the US store and buy gift vouchers if you want to purchase off there. Ask if you need any more help with that. Cheers

Thanx:) Do you recommend I buy a case or one of those full body film protectors for the back and screen?

This is an urban myth...
Batteries now days do not keep "memories" like the old NiCd batteries.
NiMH batteries are not meant to be completely discharged and doing so will shorten the life of your battery. Best advice:
Don't let your phone go flat. Ever.
Keep it charged and happy and you will never have a problem with the battery.

As a matter of interest, did you get an 8gb or 16gb model from Vodacom, also when did you get it?

Complete discharge

By the time the phone switches off due to low battery, the battery is FAR from completely drained...
Thus, the iphone is not supposed to be able to drain the battery to a "low" level and it is perfectly OK to allow the Iphone to run the battery down completely.

The Iphone 3G now comes with V3.0 pre-installed from VC.

The advantage of Jailbreaking is that you have the option to install any software, not just the paid for apps from the App Store...

Cheers, have fun
