The problem I see with renewables, apart that they have a place under certain individualcircuimstances, is that the whole concept is a rather scattered all over the place one:
Therefore:A lot of modern day etopias hold up to us, is about to be suddenly dumped apon us, unlike fossil fuels which grew with population numbers, whats diffrent now, is we are at a very highly populated planet(Votes..?), we reached a stage where is seems we dont have the Social-Intelligence to control 7 Billion nearly successfully, so noe of the new stuff has been proven in all facets at the scale of serving 7 Billion successfully, the last 30 years basicly proved this. It look wonderfull and convincing on digital computer models and some minor testing at a very small scale.
This matters in the end to make itr sustainable and affordable.
1-Power is a basic resource(Man Made) and you dont have a choice, its not a luxcery, you have to have it to have a life on this planet.
2-Physical polution(Something we have not even thought about, all over the place.
3-Maintanance costs, not now, but later, no spares, please replace.
4-Ownership changes as time goes on, thats not going to be cheap.
5-Nothing in life is for free energy wise, so th less its centralised, the more spares will become an issue and over time differences in its "perceived currency", the newer one will be better, till theres another newer one...
--We saw this fiasco with:
-Computers and electronic equipment.
--Vehicles
---Virtually every modern thing you can buy, basicly throwaways
6-So if reneables are so clean, how soft are they on Resources, Your finances, longlivity without problems, Size etc etc...
7-Theres always a price to be paid(Not money here) in the long run, so what is the price of remewables going to be-?
If fossil fuels are dumped and scrapped, and renewables fail financially in 30 years time, the next much softer generations are going to have a hard time on this planet at a scale of 7 Billion plus redigging it.
Now just say Fossil Fuels are depleted already for use of a scale at 7 Billion plus, ok, then we are screwed basicly......
