Financial Advice

Ive just read through this whole thread (lol @ Marco's actively managed index funds) and not sure where/why Alf101 is getting so worked up with you.

Doesn't seem to like financial advisors though and you are one. I am indifferrent to FA's and let them be.

I can't keep helping you lance.
You need to come to the party now.

Try to read the thread objectively and see where you went wrong.

And then apologize.

WTF is Lance?!!?!?! What did I miss?

I can assure you that you didn't trade. If so, tell me how would one go about locking in profit if you find yourself exposed to an unwanted overnight position?
I was with AVAFX and used to trade at nights only.

Momentum Investing = Gambling

It is a well known strategy and if used correctly it works. There are not many stocks that can be used for this and takes much research to find them. An example is a Co that has a history of good gains over years and it's product is a necessity. The PE is low or reasonable. Their 6 monthly reports have always been good and drops the PE after every report. The PE is attractive anyway but you have to look at the Co's future such as new innovations that are essential and will keep it going up.
This is Momentum Investing. Pity I can't reveal them here as DJ will give me hell. This is not Gambling, but a strategy that gives returns of over 70%pa and if divies are reinvested, you get 80%+.
I am not advising this method but merely dissing AlmightyBender's post.

I think you don't know exactly what Momentum Investing is either, its about following the trend, not just following the ones that have had good gains... plus its used over the last 3 to 12 months... not years.

The strategy on average apparently seems to yield about 1% per month... not 70% pa...

You are describing fundamental investing. As ToxicBunny has pointed out Momentum Investing is following a short term trend and nothing more. You do not analyse company fundamentals under a Momentum Investing strategy. It is investing based on only the probibility that the future price will behave similar to the past price from the last three months. That really does sound like placing a bet to me but that is just my interpretation.

So that's two stikes in this thread already so I'm going to conclude even though you "apparently" get good returns, at the same time you do not even understand the products and strategies that you think you are employing. And that is why everyone is so angry with you, because you give financial advice without knowing what you're talking about. And while your financial bungling might indeed be working for you there is extreme likelyhood that anyone following your advice will be exposed to exessive risk and would have a high probibility of financial loss.

Anyway. Whatever it is, it has kept me at 80%+ for years.

You mean 60%. Wait, no 70%. No, 80%. Or didn't you say 90% a few months ago.

Yeah marco. You're about as believable as a politician. You forget your own lies. At one point you told us you were heavily invested in a leveraged discretionary fund with your broker, then it was you being a trader, then you were an investor, now you simply go at it alone based on a strategy you don't understand while punting advice that is shot down by everyone around here with an inkling of financial background or expertise on a frequent, practically constant basis.

Abrigado. Boa noite, mentiroso...

I have lately been withdrawing my divies so it changes. Had I reinvested them, it would be 85% plus.
CML is my biggest holding (50%) and made a good run the past few months. Around 40% in a few months. This is why my gains have improved since posting.
Do you really think gains stay steady over months?
I have a SAFEX Account for trading on the JSE and have traded for years. I also had a FX account at AVAFX for trading gold and copper.
Heavily invested in a leveraged discretionary brokers fund? When did I say this?

But you said that you traded physical gold. You were adamant about this.

Another marco lie exposed...

Eish, thread needs to go to bed..

Ha ha, yeah, shame, I was just reading the OP again. A 24 yr old wondering what to do with funds sitting in a 0% interest bank account. Asking which bank would offer more interest. And here we are discussing trading physical gold, PEs, specific stock picks. I can only hope the poor chap does not return to this thread :D

No noob. You cannot trade physical gold unless you buy gold coins and I stay away from them as I know nothing about coins.
Can you point me to where I stated this? You should know that you can only trade in the price of gold in $ or ZAR. Not Physical gold. Where would I be able to buy gold bars?
A dam stupid reply from a Financial Adviser!!!!???
