I have a client who is looking into buying a house in SA (Cape Town)
If I go to estate agents, will they give me a finders fee or something like that should my client buy the house from them? a type of commission for me?

Any info on this?

In SA normally....

The seller of the house pays the agent a commision. You would have to speak to the agent or buyer and discuss a finders fee if you require one...

If it were any less one would not be able to survive. Just because there are some bad apples doesnt mean everybody is!

I've contacted a few estate agents in the last few weeks as I've been looking to make my first purchase. You would think, in this economic climate, that they would be falling over themselves to provide good service. They have ALL been pathetic, just to varying degrees.

In my experience (we recently sold our apartment and bought a new one) their ONE AND ONLY concern is to get a sole mandate from you. They pestered us so much about this one aspect!

I refuse sole mandates. It's my home so my terms apply.

Be careful though as there is normally a small print clause that states that once the innitial contract is over it is extended as a 180 day sole mandate. I made them cancel that too.
