Katzy’s in Rosebank at The Firs right next to Grillhouse. If you like live music then thats a great place to go. They also serve Grillhouse food. Great place to eat, chill, listen to good live music and then have a dance if the mood strikes.
Look, I dunno what "fine dining" is exactly, being from the east and all, but that doesn't sound like it.

Wombles in Bryanston is larnie and the food is spectacular! Probably set you back the same Randelas as Marble but it feels more down to earth. Just double check if it's still open as haven't been there since 2018. Grillhouse in Alice Lane is great for the amazing views from the terrace and the food is also excellent. Some nice spots around the JSE and Sandton square as well. 1920 in Hyde Park serves amazing Portuguese chow and is more relaxed and fun + plenty AirBNB or guesthouses in the area that won't rip you a new one.
Didn't Wombles close after the lockdown ?

Kolanaki and Modena in Parkhurst both have really great food but can get very busy, especially with the social media paparazzi type so neither are really too quiet or intimate if that is what you want but the owners have opened The Block Man also in Parkhurst which is a bit quieter at the moment as it ramps up. Some of the best food and whisky I have ever had has always been at Bottega in Parkhurst, a little quieter than most of Parkhurst with great service. I have been to Marble in Rosebank a few times and while the food was exceptional I have never understood the rave reviews about it but having said that, it is a place to experience at least once. Another option is one of the restaurants at the Westcliff Hotel which offers great views of Jhb and great food as well, it has always been a great experience when we have gone there.

Hey Guys

This weekend is my 3rd wedding anniversary and I want to treat the misses to a fine dining experience in Rosebank / Sandton and then a hotel stay / airbnb in the area so we dont have to drive. Any recommendations in the area ?

Was looking at Marble maybe.

Thanks

Marble was bleh and over-priced

The peech hotel was really good, its a 5* restaurant and a hotel.

The restaurant is Basalt, right?

Why are so many fancy restaurants named after rocks?

Marble - nice bar but I find the main space to be mostly awful. Its massive, has too many covers and feels a bit like the breakfast bar in a larger hotel. Prices have gone into the stratosphere of late if you're eating anything other than local cow. Still pretty good for once or twice a year, service impeccable bar the door staff wankerati.

DW eleven 13 - this is more like it if you want a tasting and wine pairing type experience. Love and dedication is present in this food.

Grillhouse (Firs still the best and most consistent of the lot), La Boqueria, Pomodoro, original Fishmonger in Illovo - None are fine dining but all are consistently good and I return often.

Ethos, Aurum, Saint, Signature, et al - overpriced, overhyped muck - top dollar prices for second best, barely passable food. These places are conceived and built for those bison-sized, non-discerning wankers who steal from the state. The owners are guaranteed largesse and vulgar displays of wealth regardless of the quality of their fayre. Normal people shouldn't bother and you'll be immensely disappointed and disgusted unless it's your very first time doing posh nosh, in which case the decor and pomp might appeal. Just get someone else to pay.

Wombles was dull and bland. I'm sure the meat was quality but they managed to engineer in a level of blandness I'd never encountered before. I've had better pub steaks.

Marble is good, the cocktails are strong, the meat was perfectly prepared, but as usual the veg, starters and dessert is where they (and other great restaurants) really stand out.
I also learned that my wife doesn't like it when I ask the sommelier to "make a recommendation from one of your cheapest wines".

DW Eleven 13 is the fanciest dining I've ever experienced. (Glad I wasn't paying though)

went to Solo at 24Central today. Food was decent. Unsure if it’ll meet criteria, maybe though
