Fine Not Registered? Should I pay anything?

Any fine issued on the spot by a traffic official is a legal summons, they have a pay by date and a court appearance date

However the summons must be completed accurately and in full otherwise it's invalid.

So the fine was issued in a AARTO district (aka JHB or PTA)? If not, then why you phoning AARTO?
 
I have the same problem, received a fine for speeding in Dec, but it doesn't show on the system. All the other fines I'm never going to pay was on the list but not this one, was at the post office. Which seem to mirror AARTO in uselessness.
 
Technically you need your fine given to you by an official. The lady writing out the fine is an official so no need for registered letters, you got your fine from an official.

What you can do is wait for the court date and then say the fine is invalid because of the mistakes on it. If you ignore the court date you can expect a call from the local police regarding a warrant for your arrest due to contempt of court and the speeding fine.

I've ignored fines that I thought was unfair (catching me going 71km/h in a 60 zone on a moerse downhill) and nothing happened. They just disappeared.

I'm curious, why do you think being caught going 71km/h downhill in a 60 zone is unfair? Do the laws of physics work differently when you go downhill?

I was applying the brakes continually, which was lit up in the frame they caught me. The trap was obviously setup on the small section knowing it's hard to keep it within those speeds. If you don't look at the speedo constantly it's very easy to go over. They were to make money. I don't entertain such rubbish.

Those were probably from a camera. When an official writes on the fine in person and hands it to you that is entirely different.

I've never bothered to ask, I assume they have internal processes that take care of such things before they go and set up traps
