Hi people, I want to buy a pc today or tomorrow, I'm stuck on a few things though.

AMD Phenom x II 555
ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 (Anyone used this Mobo?)
Gainward GTX460 786
G.SKILL F3-12800CL8D-4GBTD 2x2GB DDR3-1600
Power Supply?
Chassis?
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus

I do want to overclock the video card and the cpu, not sure if it will unlock.

What kind of power supply should i be looking at with this set up.

Cheapest chassis i can get away with for air flow and space?

I currently only play bfbc2 and the only work done on this pc is web based.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Kelevra,

Under 1k would be good, my last quote had your PSU on it i think, I'm just thinking it's a bit overkill?

case take the coolermaster elite 310.

As for power supply the coolermaster 460watt should be fine.

And I don't think you will find stock on that cooler. Also look into the Cogage True Spirit @ wootware.

Vantec 460w or CM 460w PSU's and CM elite 310 Chassis would work nice. Are you planning on SLI'ing in the future? If yes then I'd say the Corsair HX650w would work

I almost pulled the trigger on the Cogage True Spirit but it uses push pins to mount to the motherboard, and I hate push pins. Cant give a recommendation of anything else a the same price though. Everything else has already been said by previous posters, good advice so far.

@Archer

What CPU socket?

NM

I've used an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 v2 for years, love it. Quiet, cheap, and good. My friend using a cheap coolermaster heatpipe direct contact cooler. Think maybe a TX1? Its pretty good too, he hasnt been using it long but has no problems with it.

You're wrong:

You can get it for 1366 (with backplate) or 775 (with backplate), and the AM2 backplate costs R75.

I need a cooler that I can overclock with if I want to, so while those coolers look decent I dont think they wil hold up well under a large overclock. Eventually went with the Frio, has a decent mounting system and performs really well at its minimun fan speeds.

What coolers are you referring to?

The Frio (R869) costs TWICE the amount of the Cogage even including the R75 AM2 backplate (R434 total).

The Frio on high (where it cools with the best of the other top coolers) is round 60db.
The Cogage cools just about on par with it's pwm fan, ie. silent at idle.

From the manufacturer website. I didnt check each and every review for it, I assumed the product page would be correct.

And from that review...
The original True Spirit had a push-pin mounting setup which was sadly less than optimal; whereas this one comes with a backplate and mounting bracket.

Unfortunately, Cogage still only ships an Intel 1366-compatible bracket which to us is unacceptable in this day and age. Considering the increasing popularity of AMD’s processors, this omission is a total slap in the face in our opinion. Nonetheless, you also get an installation pamphlet, a Cogage case badge, two wire retention clips for the fan, two anti-vibration strips to reduce fan induced vibrations (and thus noise) and a syringe of TIM.
Seems they havent updated their website

Read my post above^
Cogage vs h50:

Frio noise:

There are plenty of reviews out there which attest to the cooling efficiency of the True Spirit. The Frio also weighs 1042g, while the Cogage is 670g. The Frio is huge and brings in the possibility of interfering with ram slots, while the Cogage is slim.

On the Wootware site you can choose between the 775 version, the 1366 version, or either and also get the AM2 backplate.

Note the fan configurations vs temp vs noise.

Frio makes less noise than the cogage around 1300rpm (its little but its there). Will be running at lowest fan speed which means 17.8° above ambient temps
Frio cools better, 5-7° at same speeds
Dont care about weight if teh cooler comes with a decent mounting system
Wont interfere with RAM since I dont have super tall heatsinks
It cost me R440
Having said all that, the Cogage provides awesome value. I already knew this and never said anything to the contrary, it was only the push pins that I did not like. Silly manufacturer should update their website.

Only on HIGH with 2x fans does the Frio beat the Cogage by 2.8 deg.'s on the overclocked test. 8 dB's louder than the single 1000~1500 RPM ±15% pwm True Spirit fan.

The True Spirit's fan isn't particularly good either: (here vs the Zalman CNPS10X Quiet)

Frio is listed in the top ten on frostytech and get better temps with stock fans on low than a H50, not much more you can ask of an air cooler. Drop the rpm to its minimun rating and it adds 3° with 37dba, staying near the top of the list. I dont get what you are trying to prove to me?

Some frosty sauce

Um, ok, you were reading the results of a direct comparison and coming to a false conclusion about temp differences AND fan speed/noise.

Yes the Cogage also beats the H50 with it's measly 1x average pwm fan, so what is YOUR point!?

If you actually read my posts, you would have seen that I linked TO THAT EXACT PAGE.

I get it alright, you don't like to be proven wrong, I'll leave you alone in future, geez. Thought there could be a friendly exchange of information, I guess not..

Nobody likes being proven wrong, but I've have on several occasions admitted when I am wrong. I just dont get your point?? What are you trying to prove that I dont agree with?! Super confused

Cogage is excellent value. The Frio cools better. They have very similar noise profiles when cooling by the same amount. If you want value, get the Cogage. If you want something better (but worse value) get the Frio.
