I'm sorry. In todays world everyone has targets and deadlines in their jobs. If you don't reach them you are either penalized or fired. So just because you work for government it is okay to not reach any of your targets or deadlines. Really...
If Government was a privately run company, they would be bankrupt within the first month.
I have been banging that drum ever since I got a job and underwent a performance evaluation.
If only we lived in a world where governments were run like large corporates (in terms of performance evaluation).
- Targets mapped at the beginning of each period (quarter-, half-, or year- period).
- Evaluations at the end of each period.
- Bonuses and increases dependent on evaluation score.
- Under-performers identified and warned.
- Under-performers receive no bonuses or increases.
- Performance interventions kicked off for under-performers (skills-gap identification and 'upskill plan' mapped and carried out)
- Persistent under-performers fired or demoted
- Performance excellence, on the other hand, gets rewarded with salary hikes and/or promotion
Alas, it's all a pipe dream that will never come to fruition, because politics is, well, politics.
...all bullsh**t , no substance.
Meritocracy, anyone?
