Firefox - 1GB? Hit by a virus?

Have I been hit by a virus? Got the latest of the latest avast definitions and I run Windows defender up to date.

But my Firefox used 1GB!

There's really no apparent slow downs, but I'm just concerned.

If it makes you feel better, i have no virus, and mine is using 2.2Gigs at the moment.

I do however have 20 tabs open.
 
and here i was worrying about the 300mb it uses with me.
 
if it is running aps online that would explain the data usage. FF6 uses less though, they have tweaked the engine.
 
Just curious, do you have "use hardware acceleration when avaialble" turned on?

Otherwise a memory leak perhaps :p then again mine is using 400MB with one tab opened Oo
 
I'm on 3g and really can't afford these leaks. I monitor closely and the leak is directly in the browser. explorer and firefox. Just installed chrome so will check that. I will update firefox to beta 7. Sometimes I stop all traffic. It infuriates me.

What version of Firefox are you using? What Avast are you using? Disable Windows Defender it's completely useless.. Download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware fully update it and run a full scan. Also have a look at SUPERAntiSpyware petty good too. Also make sure all your add-ons and extensions are up to date. If you want you can also have your internet cache cleaned out using the built in Clear recent history feature or CCleaner.

I do believe however that it's most likely not a virus, must be a add-on that you have installed that is causing the problem.

Btw why do you have two explorer.exe's running?

Chrome has a nice little task manager that shows the resources its using and network traffic, dunno if Firefox has something similar but it could help see where all that memory is being used.
