The second beta version of Firefox 3 should be released later this month and Mozilla is inviting testers to have a look at it this Friday.

Though the second beta version of Firefox 3 isn't going to be completely free of bugs, it is an important step for Mozilla on the road to finalising the new browser for general release.

Downloading the first beta version of the browser, launched last month, wasn't recommended for most surfers, but limited to Mozilla's testing community.

However, Mozilla is inviting people to become involved in the testing of the second beta release, as it uses feedback from testers to iron out bugs and fine tune the software.

Mozilla is asking volunteers to test certain aspects and features of the beta this Friday, 14 December.

"Check out and test intensive the new and improved Features in Firefox 3 like Addon-Manager, Security/Privacy, Places (Bookmarks/History), the new location bar and the Download Manager," said a member of the development team on the Mozilla website.

Further instructions on how to get involved in the testing are here.

FireFox is still fantastic. Maybe its just sounding far worse than it is.

If this is true it could mean that IE7 and Safari would be far superior to firefox in the future.

They are ruining something that used to be fantastic
Slow down there. The articles are confusing betas, release candidates and final releases.

They are just asking the developers to prioritize the bugs for the betas & RC so that they can release the betas within a reasonable time and that the people can start testing. If they don't remove some of the blockers, then they would lose out on 1 year of testing.

Even if they don't fix the bugs (Which they will), FF will still be 2x as secure as IE.

the crappy thing about using trunks (is that what they are called?) of FF is that current extensions often don't work. Us Linux users have the benefit of swiftfox which is optimised
