For years Firefox has been my favorite browser Ive tried chrome and all the rest and use them occasionally but Firefox was always top dog for me.

But I cant stand this checking compatibility for updates every time i start Firefox since the new update and I don't want to keep having to search for updates or remove them every time Firefox brings out a new 'major' update.

Am i the only on experiencing this or is it time to search for a new browser?

Depends, what add-ons you using with FF? I've recently moved from FF to Chrome and loving it...

I was the same, loved firefox - but I eventually decided to stick chrome out for a day or two, and moved all my bookmarks over etc.. and I havn't looked back. It's faster.. and doesn't get that bogged down feeling you get in FF when you have a ton of extensions...also the extensions feel nicer - they don't require browser restarts when installing or updating them.. it's just a much cleaner browser (to me anyway). Firefox still has some awesome addons that are as yet not in chrome, but that won't be forever. Chrome also has the chrome app store which is pretty cool. Did I mention, it's so much faster. :)

If you like the thumbnail feature on Chrome try Speed Dial 2. Thumbnail on steroids!!

OP, what version of Firefox are you running? Your issue is a strange one and only happens to me when I update FF and run it for the first time. Otherwise I do not get prompted for update add-ons at all.

Try a reinstall.

I don't see what the problem is?

Firefox checks once on update for compatibility.
If it is not compatible it disables it until such time as it become compatible again (then it will start working again).
If it is compatible it carries on as normal.

You don't have to bother with anything or do anything, just leave it be.

If it is checking EVERY single time, then there is something wrong.
There must be a setting somewhere that you have enabled to check it every time.

If you're running Firefox on Linux:

Edit/Preferences/Advanced/Update to select your update preferences - probably in the same place on Windows but I'm too lazy to check.

OT: I've got both Chrome & Firefox set up on my Linux systems (Sea Monkey & Opera as well) and Firefox has been my browser of choice for years in respect of speed and usability. Unfortunately I don't use Windows often enough to have a valid opinion on relative performance on that platform.

well then there must be a problem cause It does it every time i start Firefox and I have disabled it in the options but it still does it every time even though my add-ons all seem to work perfectly.

it only takes 5 seconds but thats to long when i open my browser i want it open immediately.

I haven't tried reinstalling but I think I'm just going to try chrome for a week and see how it goes.
