Why is that YouTube (and other flash sites) lag on Firefox

But on Chrome the same video is smooth

It's the same on the Mac, and to a lesser extent, on Windows. Firefox is slow. Slow slow slow. At work, I need to restart it several times a day to cope with my work load - 20 or so tabs, most of them the various tools we use at work, most of them heavy on javascript.

On the Mac, Youtube/flash plays just fine in Chrome, Safari and Opera.

Firefox no likey flashplayer. Infact, they are planning on blocking Adobe totally from Forefox, supposedly too big a security risk. Pity, because I hate Chrome with a passion and IE is jusr cr@p.

When I installed Ubuntu, my flash worked on firefox without a problem, and not slow at all, but then again, this lappy is at least running an i3. I do however prefer using chrome over firefox.

In fact, loaded up firefox quick, loaded the Fast and Furios 6 trailer and it showed just fine without any tearing, flickering, no lag, no issues, so not sure why you guys are having problems.

The problem with Firefox has nothing to do with Flash. It has the same problems when using HTML5. It's about how it handles the stream. I read an in-depth article on it a long time ago - I can't remember much of it, but it came down to this. It saves the stream to cache periodically, like every few seconds. It doesn't do this asynchronously, so it actually interrupts the stream. Depending on how long that takes, it might or might not be enough to cause the playback to pause for a fraction of a second.

it's strange cause at times it will pause even though it has already preloaded a lot of the video. i can certainly believe this.
