Firefox intermittent freezes...

For the last few months Firefox has been playing up - it freezes briefly when I click on a link or navigate to a website. It's only brief (about 2 seconds) but it's annoying as hell.

Do you have anti-virus software installed? The Web Shield component of an anti-virus program can cause your browser to stall briefly while it checks the link you clicked on, to ensure infected files are not downloaded.

You might want to play with your Web Shield settings. If you have Avast! anti-virus installed, check if Web Shield set on "High", then set it to "Normal" and see if it makes a difference. Or go to 'custom' and disable webscanning, or you can terminate the web shield component of your anti-virus altogether. You can always put it on again. Or set both Web Shield and Standard Shield to "Normal".
If you disable the web shield and the delay/freezing stops, then at least you've isolated the problem.

It could even be your hard drive, every time you click on something, it has to download temporary files, and if there's something wrong with your h/drive, it will temporarily freeze too.

Thanks Globetrotter - I'm using AVG and disabled the web shield but the problem still persists... :(

The problem is isolated to mybroadband though - no other sites are giving me this hassle...

So the problem ONLY occurs with Firefox right? It could be that one of your FFox add-ons is causing the problem. Just 'disable' one at a time and restart the browser, see if the problem persists.

It's weird that you *only* experience your problem when clicking on MyBB hyperlinks.

I've already tried disabling all add-ons which did nothing. By the sounds of it (based on other posters on this thread), it's not just a mybb problem, but a forum problem. Could it be a vbulletin issue?

Yesterday I got sick of it & installed Chrome, but after installing Chrome I havent had any problems with FF. Dont know how thats related but mine is fine now...

Also experiencing similar issues, but only after substantial surfing. Once it starts, I close FF & restart it and it then seems fine for another hour or three.

Definitely a 3.5.3 issue for me - noticed it soon after the friendly 'You have been updated to the latest version...' note.

Annoying as hell, but once you've grown used to FF no other will do...

I have the same problem before when I upgraded to Firefox 3.5. But now, it is fixed.
What did I do?
I downgraded my version of Firefox from 3.5 to 3.0.

I had the same annoying problem on reloading or clicking any link, not only Mybb. I have disabled AVG's Link Scanner and restarted firefox and it seems to have sorted the problem out. Thanks! :)

It's only been an issue with firefox 3.5.2 though :(

got the same prob but for various sites not just forums ... anyone tried V3.6 aplha 1 yet ? any reviews ? any comments ?

Well there's your problem. But seriously, AVG has a lot of performance issues!

My FF used to do this but hasn't been doing it since upgrading to 3.5.3. I'll give it some time and I bet it will start all over again.
