Until recently FF was working great. Upgraded both machines on the Lan to 1.06 then the fun started. Uninstalled it on gateway and downgraded to 1.04 cleaned up profile. So 1 machine has 1.04 and the other 1.06. Both ave the same problem.

The problem occurs most times when one clicks on any link on any page the FF icon in the top left hand corner becomes a white rectangle with the accompanying message (not responding) and the hour glass hangs for about 20 seconds. This also happens if I try to scroll up or down on a page.
The problem does not occur with IE. Its so bad that I am considering formating the hard drive. System has firewall virus protection all the norm.

Have deleted FF extensions but problem persists. Tried the Mozilla forum to no avail. Anyone got any constructive suggestions?

Just delete the profile directory in Document And Settings/username/Application Data/Mozilla/FireFox/* and the Mozilla Program Directory and reinstall.

Tibby I did that and also created a new profile which I made the new default.

Iv just got another question regarding firefox, is it normal for it to use 100mb+ of memory? When i start it up (which takes forever) it uses about 50mb (which doesnt seem normal either) and after a while of browsing, it uses more than 100mb. any one else with a similar problem?
BTW im using v1.0.7

Thanks in advance :)

Yeah it is pretty normal ... a memory hog of note due to the XUL cross platform framework it uses and FireFox earlier than 1.5beta has a known memory leak which causes the browser to grab gobs of memory over time if you don't shut it down :).

Are the machines running XP with hyper threading enabled ?

Mine only uses 18MB of Memory.... never more =/

I'm sitting at 38MB of usage, and have a few tabs open. 100MB IMO is a bit much, something seems to be wrong. Any "funny" extentions installed?

Running firefox on Fedora 3 - so many tabs open I can hardly read their descriptions! - usage? Around 40mb

IE on win XP - one tab (well you only get the one  ), usage? around 20mb.

I had quite a few extentions installed, but disabled them all, and still no change. I wonder if it might help if i do a full re-install of XP? My pc's anyway begging for a format :( , blerrie thing keeps on giving errors that i cant seem to fix  , even if i un-install nearly everything.

Starting "fresh" with windows every 6 months is normally a good idea, since it start to get "unresponsive" after a while :D
