Firefox usage surges

I downloaded it as it was posted, pressed refresh was still old one, did it again still same then again then it was up, toot all of 15sec so i was in the first 2min!

It is much faster on OSX so I dropped Opera for it, also the personas look better on OSX than windows Vista or 7.

South Africa was listed as number 55 in the total number of downloads by country.

Damn! Got to do something about that. ;)

Firefox 3.6 is a significant upgrade for web users and includes a number of new features including personas for customising Firefox's appearance, many new HTML5 features including geolocation, CSS gradients, native video and the new Web Open Font Format for including fonts in web designs.

All I know is it is simply the best browser and serves me royally! :D

While most of the downloads of Firefox 3.6 are likely to be done by existing Firefox users, the browser also received a additional boost in the past week when new security flaws were revealed in opponent Internet Explorer. The security risks in IE prompted the German government to recommend web users adopt another browser to protect themselves when online.

Not surprised given the way the Germans reacted to the hijacking/shooting of the Togo soccer bus in Cabinda! :p

Microsoft said at the time that the flaws in IE were insignificant but they did issue a security update for IE on Thursday last week.

And of course that's going to be their response. Swiftly sweep it under the burgeoning rug and hope it won't be noticed :D

Agreed - maybe every technical person could start by ensuring their customers get to know the merits of Open Source facilities such as Firefox, Thunderbird, Open Office, ALZip, etc. and be encouraged to make the switch.

Only use IE to access one page every month - doesn't work on FF. Don't even download fixes for IE any more. As soon as the site is sorted IE doesn't exist for me any more

I found that Firefox has become so bloated the last few months. Running minimal add-ons, but it is just slow as hell.

I always found FIrefox slow and never saw the point but maybe I'll download it just to see what the fuss is about, again. I've switch to Chrome from IE recently as IE keeps "Not Responding". Opera and Chrome are preferable for me.

Dude firefox is the best, so many add on and different things you can do with it.

I honestly cannot notice the 5ms chrome loads a page faster, really not going to change my life in anyway to have chrome loading 5ms faster than firefox :D

I've been finding Google Chrome still has some issues, and it's annoying me.

I'm switching back as soon as 3.6 has downloaded!

Coming from the old firefox to the new version and the page loads much quicker.

The article states:
many new HTML5 features including geolocation

I'm using FF 3.6 since yesterday. buy I cant find any place in 'option' to disable the geolocation - which I assume means that FF can locate my approx location, just by using it??

Am I the only one (except the two guys who posted earlier) who find Firefox to be really slow compared to Chrome? I am not referring to the page load times. The Firefox interface feels really slow, even with no add-ons installed. I tried it a few mothes ago, have not tried 3.6 though.
