Fireplace advice

I was worried about that, but there is a little metal thing that came with that can hook on to the door latch. It won't work for the vent handles. Guess I will also have pleirs close by.

The manual says the unit comes with a "cold" handle, meaning detached. Did it not come supplied with? Also a little shovel from what I can tell to remove the ash.

I would personally not use pliers, just scared that some coating gets compromised through the grip of the pliers and then start rusting. Normal braai mits is enough

You know, since the control panel was missing, maybe some of those things are missing too, as I didnt see them. I will find out from the supplier.

How do keep it burning? I know of some Dutch who had one and they burnt it 24/7.

Mine tends to be deader than dead the next day, even if I load anthracite in the "hopper feeder".

You have to clear the ash build up at least every 8-10hrs,

Haven't used anthracite yet. My fireplace was multifuel and I specifically made sure I could do both

Whats nice with closed combustion is you can pop a flatbottom potjie on it, not braai but heading in that direction

If you want this just get a open braai any wood burning in there is like a fireplace anyway, thats what we do sometimes under our lapa in winter.

Tonight's oxtail started on gas stove and transferred to top of fireplace. Slowly simmers there for 4 - 5 hours. Works great for gluhwein as well.
 
reading this thread again ,I'll have to change my freestanding fireplace with a closed combustion, it just makes sense I like the cooking part as well ...

dont know where you are but cpt is cold

my buddy was here from dbn and dbn has gotten very cold and he was perfectly fine in CPT
normally dbn people freeze in CPT
 
Cold snap and rain incoming for CPT. Obligatory firewood shuffle commencing!

Lit a fire.

Filled the old bin and moved it out of rain to keep some wood dry ;)

Filled house up with more dry wood.

Played with inverter to make sure battery is full and loadshedding isn’t a thing ;)

Yep - used to buy about 4000 pieces a year but with Covid and hard lockdowns I haven’t been consuming near as much!

The plan is to use these leftovers and then do a nice big bulk order for some better pricing.

You are buying "insta" wood pretty but at a price.

I buy all my "smoking" wood, black wattle, sekelbos and kameeldoring from them though. The last two years
