Hi all

I need some help with my DSL-2500U. How do I turn the firewall off? There is a section for IP filtering but I would have to enter individual records for each port/ip combination. I already have a firewall on the router before you lecture me on the risks of disabling a firewall!

(I cannot register on my SIP account and before I complain to MWeb I need to make sure that the firewall is either open or turned off completely. I don't think this is it the problem as it started before I bought the new modem but you know they will insist it is.)

O/T Have a look at D'link's Russian site. They still develop firmware for it, which I preferred to the stock version.

Go to the router's web page, then Advanced Setup-->WAN-->Edit ADSL PPPoE connection ---> next, next, next, until on last page you uncheck "Enable Firewall". Reboot the router and you are done :)

Oh I saw some images of the firmware that looked different to mine I will check it out. Thanks

Thanks. What an incredibly stupid place to put it! I honestly forgot that that's where I enabled the firewall.

I did change the default policy under both Incoming and Outgoing Outgoing IP Filtering Setup to 'ACCEPTED' but I am not sure if this means default for all rules you enter on that page or for all traffic.

I have just unticked 'Enable firewall' under my PPPoE connection settings but I still have a problem. Must be a VOIP problem. Thanks

Hi There GPSJane,
I installed a softphone and needed to open the ports and the connection issue disappeared. The firewall remained enabled.
Have you checked the documentation from the SIP provider to ensure you have everything according to their specifications?

Regards

Tim

Hi Tim, thanks I really have and my VOIP worked fine before this modem was installed. I had forwarded the ports but it wasn't working although even now that I have disabled the firewall it still doesn't work. No idea now.

D-Link DSL-2500U is the worst modem I have ever used. Don't buy it!

Replaced with a TP-Link. Much better.

nothing wrong with the dlink modem, have used it for 3 years now without ever going back into the setup. although it is in bridge mode, not doing the routing. It is the perfect modem, plug in and forget about.

Did you trip over your old DSL-2500U or something, you’re posting these sentiments all over the place today
