Firewall prevents access to WOW SA

I think most probably you just need to forward a port.

Does WOW support uPnP? It should be available on your router and with that enabled your router basically allows the ports automatically.

If WOW can't do uPnP, then just look for the "virtual server" or something similar area in your router. Just find out which ports it uses and add those and save the settings ;)
 
Are you trying to run the wow server on your pc through your firewall, or trying to connect to a server?
 
Hi, thanks for response. My son is trying to connect to a server called the realm. He has disabled his PCs firewalls and can connect when I disable the firewall on the ADSL router (Billion 7402G) he can connect. I have tried creating an exception on the router firewall but every time I enable the firewall my son gets disconnected. For obvious reasons i am loath to leave router firewall off. Any help gratefully received.

Can he connect when the router firewall is off? If so, look at getting some firewall software ie Zone Alarm. If not, try reset the router to default settings and test.

What is the exception you're allowing on the firewall? the ip address or the realmlist?

He can connect when firewall is off. The exception address I'm using is the IP (192.96.30.15) which the router accepts but doesn't allow my sons PC to access. he is running Zone Alarm and Windows Firewall and has allowed access through these programmes which works. The problem only happens when the router firewall is turned back on.

You can find UPnP on the 7402G under Configuration --> Advanced --> Device Management.

With regard to the firewall, what Policy are you using (Low, Medium, High)?
What port(s) are WoW using that you need to unblock?
Another thing to remember is that the firewall executes the packet filter from the top down, so if there is a rule superceeding the one that you have created it will never execute that rule.
Are you allowing only a specific IP address (range) for that port?

Hi I'm using medium. I have only given a specific IP address. No sure what ports I need to unblock but looks like 3724. the website Ports fForwarding talks about setting up Virtual server with static IP. Not sure how this will affect normal operation of system

Try it with UPnP first.
 
I see you are creating the exception for IP address 192.96.30.15, is this the IP address of your sons computer? Also is his PC using a Static or Dynamic IP?

The Firewall set up should then be:
Rule Name - WoW
Time Schedule - Always On
Source IP - 192.96.30.15 Netmask - 255.255.255.255
Destination - 0.0.0.0 Netmask - 0.0.0.0
Type - TCP
Source Port - 0 ~ 65535
Destination Port - 3724 ~ 3724
Inbound - Allow
Outbound - Allow

Port Forward.com says you need to repeat this for ports 6112 and 6881~6999 as well.

If UPnP is enabled then you will not need to do the port forwarding, but this is the port forward config.

The virtual server config should be as follows:

Time Schedule - Always on
Application - WoW
Protocol - TCP
External Port - 3724 ~ 3724
Redirect Port - 0 ~ 0 (This will create a virtual mapping)
Internal IP Address ~ 192.96.30.15

Again you will have to repeat this for ports 6112 and 6881~6999
