I've always wondered about the intelligence of the Australians but this comment is stupid even by their standards!

THE World Cup many thought was impossible has arrived.

Tonight, at the magnificent Soccer City stadium, designed to resemble the traditional African cooking pot, the calabash, the first black World Cup kicks off just a few kilometres from where apartheid began to unravel, Soweto. South Africa, out and proud - and thanks to the vuvuzelas, very loud - take on Mexico in the first of 64 games that will decide who will become the 19th champion of the world's most popular sport, football.

Why is the word black so offensive to you lance?

It is a black world cup considering the ANC are black and in power and the country is majority black.

Hmmm I didn't know that people like Nadine Gordimer and Jeremy Cronin were black. Must be going colour blind :/

Well how suprising that you are in agreement.

So let's set the record straight then seeing as though some South Africans appear to be as stupid as some Australian journalists. This world cup is organised by South Africa. Now from my hands on involvement I can tell you with certainty that there are a large number of white, black, coloured South Africans involved, as well as many fellow Africans from neighbouring countries. So how exactly does it become a black world cup. Even in the ANC, which some ill informed individuals seem to think is a blacks only club, there are a number of white members.

Now please grow up. You are desperately trying to turn this into me being a racist but the stupidity is that you are failing to see that it is the exact opposite.

I am not lance but from an outsiders perspective SA is a black run country like majority of africa.

I just think sometimes you see the word black and automatically think it is wrong to say. It is a big achievement for Africa and black people hosting the world cup as crazy as that may sound.

It's not necessarily racist, just ignorant and retarded.

South Africans are hosting the world cup - that's me, you, and every other citizen of the country. And I'm certainly not black.

Um, yes, and that is exactly my point, this perception is wrong and, as stated, STUPID! Defending it makes one wonder about the intelligence of those doing so....
