First Blood Drawn - 360 vs PS3.

look..I think sony by no doubt had this whole next gen thing sorted, you know they went all the way and held nothing back...but obviously all this next gen sh*t added to this extremely high price, which seriously is not competitive as a gaming console. Sure it goes bonkers on a HD tv, and sure Blueray and all that stuff...but honestly how big is the percentage of people with HD Tv's(real HD TV's)..and how many people really care about better quality movies than DVD? And on anything smaller than a 72cm tv u cant see a difference between the xbox and ps3..but my money is on the wii...isnt it amazing how such a by far graphical inferior console just blew the market away by just remembering what its about?

Yes, that definately justifies paying R10000 for a PC. Half price games!!!! w00t!!!! :rolleyes:

Now before anyone lables me an Xbox360/M$ fanboy let me just tell you that I'm a PC gamer who doesn't own any console........ wait, does a PSP count? I think it's classified as a handheld. Anyway, I own a PSP.

I am however planning to get the Wii this year...... but that will be all.......... and maybe a DS.
 
The R2500 that you pay for the gfx card is not equal to R250 saved per game.

I was a pc gamer way before I bought my 360 and I bought GOW and Orangebox for the pc.
The GOW port was plagued by glitches and lagging even though my machine was FAR above the required specs.

I am not sure why you are using those numbers to prove your point?

My point being that the high price of the PS3 didn't affect its sales.

Ho and the Xbox titles coming out on the PC are half the price you pay for the Xbox version.

Yeah, as much as we all know that the PS2 is the best selling 6th generation machine it is about as helpful as knowing the sales figures of a 1967 VW Beetle in this discussion. :p

Does that make better sense? A proper 1080i HD LCD TV will not cost you less than R8000 (that's just a thumbsuck value, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns ouut to be more).

In the end while you can play games on a normal TV without trouble, trying to watch a BR DVD movie on a normal TV is a waste off money....... you may as well just get a normal DVD.

Nah, gimme my Wii and I'll be happy. :p

I just try and be objective when I look at these things. From my side it wouldn't make sense to get either the X360 or the PS3 since I already have a PC. I just need something that I can get my friends to play while we're at a braai or something. :)

The 6th gen sales are extremely relevant because the go towards determining the size of the market.

Consoles and PC's offer different ways of playing and the Microsoft approach is that it's a personal preference thing which it is. That's why they happily endorse 3rd parties doing PC/360 exclusives, they win either way because you're still playing your games on a Microsoft platform and you get to play the way that's comfortable for you.

Just remember the better experience for co-released will always be on the 360, because it's worth 4x more than the PC platform.

Thank you some one that actually got what I wanted to point out.

The figures show that it's too early for fireworks from anyside, Xbox going a good route from the looks of it. But Sony never seizes to surprise the market even with their high prices.

I still will take the Ps3, sorry, there are a couple of sequels i wanna play in it.

Has for the Xbox guess I will play those titles on my R15 000 PC....lol
 
My Xbox 360 just broke. I'm having it exchanged but I'm certainly far from being a die-hard Bill Gates-is-my-hero, 360 forever! guy.
I think the fact that they are so @#$% unreliable is going to bite MS in the butt. I wouldn't recommend a 360 to anyone I considered a friend.
Consoles used to have the upper hand in the never-crashes, put-it-in-and-it-plays department but alas........no more. Maybe I'll feel better in a week with a new 360, but I'm still rather disappointed. :(

At least in SA you get the fortune of having a complete swap-out for faulty units. Instead of just having it repaired. But yeah, M$ did mess up badly in the reliability department, but this has been known for a long time now and even then the X360s have sold well.

Regarding the figures being posted.
I am not totally in agreement unfortunately.

We are excluding the fact that the people in those stats might already have purchased next-gen consoles.
We cant use those stats as an example of people that are to be future next-gen console owners.

I think it did. There was every indication that Sony expected more sales. A lot more. That current PS2 owners would just buy the PS3 regardless of the price.

I'm sorry you feel that way. The new models are a lot better. Just remember every Manufacturer has it's day. The PS2 had terrible DVD issues at launch as well, going so far as to issue a recall on some units.
