Hello lads,

My past two 24 month contracts have been under my father's name, while I was still a student. In October the contract with Vodacom is ending (top-up contract).

Being all grown up now, I was thinking of moving to cell-c and getting the straight up 100 contract deal (with +300mb per month) & then choosing the S3 phone. R478 per month.

I'm new to cell contracts, but it looks like an ok deal. I see vodacom have the S3 on a contract for R399 per month that includes 150 sms & 150 mb data, but it only has 75 free minutes. Not to mention that out of bundle rates for voice/sms/data are at least double of what cell C has.

So just wondering, is cell c really that drastically different to warrant a change, and if so, how do I do that? Will I be able to port my number, given that the current contract is not in my name, and should I cancel with vodacom before a certain date? Can I just walk into any vodacom store and say I want to cancel, or will my father have to do it?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Most importantly...

The contract must not be cancelled. Your dad must ask them to port the number to prepaid, otherwise you WILL lose the number.

Your dad will have to do that as his name is on the contract...

The contract is a legally binding agreement between your dad and Vodacom. Only he can change, cancel, port or upgrade it.

There are a lot of developments recently and I am sure that more specials will follow as service providers try to hold on to their customers.

I would wait another month before deciding, if I was you.

Scrolled past this thread a few times and kept thinking the title was "first contact". Would have been way more interesting.
