First Experiences With 8ta

Been Perfect for me also Rica'd in 5 minutes got recharge voucher and was surfing internet quickly

They even send a sms with the Internet and MMS settings :)

How would they do this if they don't know what phone you have? Clearly, their system is not able to tell.

I had a call from an operator asking for the date the voucher was purchased. I was also promised a call from a technician, but this has not happened yet.

lol i cannot imagine their call centre is better than the adsl call centre.

Sounds like a service that either works and your happy, or it doesnt work and your left pulling your nails out because you cant and wont get answers.

Prices are good, but its telkom, the most customer uncentric company in the country, would have to take MTN, Voda, cell C and who ever else to suddenly stop operating for me to use them.

Good luck.

Telkom is one big epic fail. Did you expect anything more from their mobile arm?

So what is YOUR experience with 8ta?

Mine was disastrous. The voucher that I loaded, and was accepted, disappeared. I can't call enquiries (180) because I get a message thet there is no money on my phone.

There is very poor reception at my house (I live near Wanderers), even though I have good VC reception and great Cell C reception.

Just rubbish !

Voucher I loaded reflects. Had to do the manual thing for internet settings as it's probably an older phone and whatever was done (clearly not by me) worked.

Took a few days for the RICA registration to register. Still haven't received the welcome SMS with the phone number. Had a mission of a time finding a place that sold the airtime, eventually had to check the phone number by doing the *140 thing. But I now know that CNA seems to be the only store selling airtime near me. This was the biggest annoyance for me - I don't want to have to wander around to find airtime; it should be available wherever I buy my groceries from/on online banking.

Haven't made calls/sent SMS' yet, so I can't comment on those yet.

'ello Miss AvA

I also had an issue with the welcome SMS for my number. Did the *140 thing to get my number as well!

I find I'm getting a dropped call or two when mobile. Looks like a cell "handover" issue between MTN and 8ta networks.

Recharging? From what I've heard ABSA, FNB and Nedbank will be linked within the next 2 weeks. P'nP and Shoprite/Checkers also within 2 weeks.

There's still no sign of Telkom 8ta responding to my voucher problem. If this is their best shot then I'm gonna set the sim on fire and post it to them. Really!

All the best with that, I tired to transfer airtime from my Telkom 3G to 8.ta and you guessed right it didnt work but took the money.Well I gave up even phoning them:they couldnt pick up my number (Telkom 3G) one, thou with internet problems they did phone me back and try to sort the problem using Windows cmd...yeah all this time they posted up a "Internet not working sign" on twitter

Have they said when they'll integrate it with online banking? I never buy airtime in the real world. always on the net!

Same here. Except, I only buy airtime via cellphone banking.

Anyway, I bought and RICA's my 8ta sim the other day. I'm annoyed that I can't port my number, or buy airtime online. For now, my 8ta sim is gonna lay in my drawer until Telkom get their act together. I guess I'll stick with Cell C who haven't really bothered me, although those their minutes isn't really all that great, considering that most of the people I know aren't on Cell C.

You can port but only at selected stores... see one of the other threads I think someone posted it there. See my earlier post regarding online recharging.

My experience thusfar...
Went to Telkom Direct Shop.
Got the sim card for free, did the RICA thing.
Almost immediately got the 2 SMS saying balance is less then R5, then balance = R0.
Did not get the welcome SMS immediately.
TDS staff told me to send a "Call Me" from the 8ta phone to my other phone.
Got number from above.
Loaded airtime.
No problems thusfar.

Online Recharging?
Apparently ABSA/Nedbank from this coming week and FNB in 2 weeks time.

I see, so FNB will be adding 8ta in 2 weeks time? I was expecting to wait a little longer.

Yeah, someone mentioned that there's like only 5 stores in SA that can port your number.

Internet connection operates at 234kb/sec and says MTN EDGE. I enquired why I don't get 3.6mb/sec like it says on the website and was told I didn't buy enough data. What a lot of crap!

3 days later I asked again, this time it was "connection issues". I asked whether it is on my side or their side and was told my 3G modem was out of date.

Today I asked again, and was then told that 3G is 234kb/sec, there is no service available at 3.6 or 7.2mb/sec. When I advised that this is what is stated on their website, I was told he didn't have anything to do with the website so was not his fault

Full marks on how not to run a business!

Of one thing we can be sure of with Telkom, and the above is living-proof of that. Every time one asks an agent of their's a question, concerning the same issue, you're bound to get a different answer. No uniformity.
