Firefox is the most memory efficient of the browsers.
Chrome is the most memory hogger, in return it separates tabs in memory, so if one tab messes up it doesn't kill all of them.

Thunderbird is Mozillas mail client, we run it on many low spec Win7 systems as an Outlook Express replacement without hassles. Not sure how bloated and slow applies.
I'm aware it's not Firefox. Fully aware it's a mail client. The relevance is that it's Mozilla and in it's umpteenth iteration, yet still it's slow and bloated. There are thousands of users who complain about how slow and bloated it is. I'll bet a first generation Mozilla phone will suck too. I'll further bet that a tenth generation Mozilla phone will still suck.

Sales is not the same as quality. They are trying to compete with heavily advertised competitors. They should have entered a lot earlier when android just came in or so.
Also, you would have to give longer than 12 months, most people have 24 month contracts (most who buy higher end phones have contracts) due to them having to get out of lock.
Then you have to take into account which South African mobile operators will actually sell it. There is a distinct lack of choice here compared to many other places, such as Europe and the States.

OK it is a bit of a rip off. You can buy a Zest T1 for R1600 and it would flatten this phone. Both in hardware and software.
The RAM requirements for Firefox OS to run properly are lower than iOS and Android.

I got this phone as a upgrade on my wife's contract. We did not really want the phone itself, but the contract was very nice and cheap packed with loads of data and minutes. It is a nice phone, but for now it will stay in it's box as a spair. I don't really know what to do with it as it does not support the quality apps I am used to, like google maps for one, a proper whatsapp client etc.... Yes I can run whatsapp on it via a third party app, but not reliable enough in a way that I know each message will come through to me. Whatsapp groups I am part of also does not show up, just contacts. I am confident though that Whatsapp will release a proper client for firefox os soon and then I might give the phone a try for a week or so.
