My first Macbook will arrive later today and i'm so stoked. Went for the pro retina with 2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
16GB RAM
256GB Flash Storage

Being a Mac newbie i'm sure i will have a lot of questions :)

you'll spend 10 minutes with it and start blaming windows for being the evil stepmother that has held you captive with no sweeties for all this time.

and from now on when you hear / read about some issue someone is having with their PC you'll take a deep breathe and simply say : "windows... there's your problem"

Congrats.... If you don't mind me asking. How much extra did you pay for the additional 8GB RAM?

Yes, for years now I've been using Windows 7 64bit and every time I open an application or click on the start menu I get a blue screen.

Oh wait that's in your head and is completely contrary to reality.

Windows 7 for me has been very stable, it's been my main computer for work and it plays all my games and I haven't seen a blue screen, I've had my laptop for more than 2 years, it's also quad core i7, 12GB ram (up to 16) bluray player, 1GB video card etc. and it costed me less than 7k. 998 dollars back when the dollar was just below 7 Rand. And I remember iPhones being over 12k here at one stage :)

I'm sure your mac book is awesome but don't disingenuously mislead and deceive others.

Lol, different strokes I suppose. My experience was exactly the opposite, found it completely counter intuitive and promptly dual booted Windows 7 after a month.

@Gushesh hope you enjoy it though, like I said, different strokes!

Need help - no problem. The Mac community is always ready to point you in the right direction. You can count me in too.

Oh and welcome to the Mac world, cos you're worth it. lol

Thats quite a fancy machine. Enjoy.

Macbook Air 2012 - removed OS X completely. Running Windows 7 :)
Apple did a great job wrt the drivers.

I'm the opposite. Been using OS X for 2 years, now have to work on Windows 7. The problem is that OS X is a a :drag and drop, swipe: type operating system, whereas WIndows is a "click / double click" operating system. I found that OS X was a learning curve, but after getting use to it, it is more "natural" Especially the 4 and 5 finger swipe. So combining a Mac mouse with the trackpad, working between applications is a breeze in OS X.

I'm not quite sure that I agree with you, creeper. I've always found that OS X adapts to how you are using it. If you are a right-click/contextual menu kind of person, it's there. If you are a drag 'n drop kind of person, it's there too. If you are a command-line fanatic, well, hello Terminal & bash.

Being thoroughly schizophrenic, we switch between these methods throughout the day/no we don't/speak for yourself.

Of course, it does make a difference what kind of input method you are using. For example, natural scrolling really does feel natural to me on the Magic Trackpad :love: but it is an abomination with a mouse.

I have a Samsung laptop that I haul out when I have to deal with SARS and such. I find it hard to believe anyone would actually prefer win7 over OSX, but hey, it takes all kinds to make an ecosystem.

I find OS X cumbersome and limiting. I really tried very hard to like it for 3 months and then gave up. Don't get me started on the font rendering, it's fuzzy and no easy way to fix it.

Apple hardware on the other hand is pretty good although dated.

My brother drank the cool-aid but he also kind of gave up on os x.

No it's not. :wtf:

Thanks all for the support. My Mac arrived yesterday and what a beauty it is, i am in love :)
OSX takes some getting used to and it will be a while until i am fluent with it but i enjoy how versatile and powerful it is.
I can see myself needing windows less and less, mostly just for dev tools that don't run on OSX.

Some annoying things are finding out how to do the simplest tasks such as right click for context menus, shortcuts to refresh webpages and how to get the resolution in my windows VM to stick, it keeps changing to a higher res.

Performance is excellent, i would definitely recommend the SSD and 16GB RAM, it starts up from cold in seconds and performance of VMs is excellent.

Not sure what the extra RAM cost but the whole deal was £1500 from Apple online.
