I received a First Notice for speeding in Cape Town, which in itself is fairly normal, however the form doesn't state a fine amount. Am I going to have to go to court to deal with this?

Doesn't that usually mean you should bring your own lube?
What speed were you doing, and what was the zone?
If you go 30kmph over the speed limit in Cape Town (began last year Jan 2013), you do not receive a fine but need to appear in court. Their is no admission of guilt either. I received mine first notice mid Jan 2013, wrote to them and was told no admission of guilt, you will need to appear…. still waiting.
The courts are over burdened, so they finding it a little tough to manage this by-law in Cape Town![]()

Usually a minimum of R1000 for the first offence. It's the lowest I have ever seen handed out on a first offence - it may also depend on where you were speeding. For example, in a residential area near a school? You'll probably be nailed more. Had a buddy who did 103 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, was nailed with a R2500 fine because he was speeding in a road right next to a primary scool.
It was the damn N1, which near the city is apparently only 80km/h, not 120km/h as per normal.
When you say first offence? Do you mean first offence of this type, or for speeding in general? I have had many tickets for speeding before, however this is the first time I have received this type of notice
First offence for excessive speeding.
I have to appear next week wednesday for a NAG fine. I was doing 92km/h in a 60km/h zone. I tried going to court last week to pay a fine but got turned away and told I have to explain my story to a magistrate.
I will give feedback on Wednesday after I've experienced the wrath of the law.
