First Post - Is Cloud Gaming like 'Google Stadia' Available in SA?

Hi everyone!

New to the MyBroadband Forums, very happy to be here.

I'm not sure if there's a board I should introduce myself on as with some other Forums, if there is please do advise.

Getting to my question: Is Cloud Gaming (where you stream a game from a company's server similar to NetFlix / YouTube) available in South Africa? I've tried every route, besides VPN due to the low transfer speeds, and can't find anything.

Unfortunately I doubt we'll see it here anytime soon. Our biggest chance is probably xCloud or whatever it's called these days but our market is probably too small.

yes - if you use a vpn but don't expect great results.

unless you planning to sit inside Teraco DC and game, I dont think so
too much latency id imagine is the real reason.

Yeah, that's the problem. I've managed to access services through my own VPN, but even then the latency is nothing but frustrating. CS 1.6 on a 56kbps.

Guess we'll have to wait!

We have decent latency and bandwidth these days. At least in all major areas. I think it's just the gaming market size, and also how many can afford said decent Internet and bandwidth.

I pay less than 1k for 100mb fiber, and last I ran a -ping on DOTA I was getting 1ms, although I'm sure that was some sort of error lol.

So I wish we could see some sort of cloud gaming like GeForce Now here. Especially due to cost of gaming hardware these days I see GeForce Now seems to have some sort of Alliance Partner program going in some countries - so perhaps there's hope a local provider can fit the bill.

first world solutions wont work in a 3rd world hellh0le like SA.
look at how our goverment holds back spectrum and innovation with archaic rules and regulations.

yes, its gotten better from the days of Skype being illegal,
but there's a long way to go before we can all just game anywhere and pay very little for it.
