I would suggest waiting to see if there are any heating problems with the Slim. The PS3 is a powerful machine that has now been squeezed into a more confined space. Even if the 45nm chip runs cooler, the heat from the BD drive & power supply will need to be dissapated efficiently to ensure a cool running system. Just my view. If the Slim retails for R3500 plus a game, it will be excellent value for money.

Agreed, if it was R3500 incl. a game or even R3800 incl. two decent games (Killzone2, etc), I would consider it. R3800 just for the console is pushing my budget too much.

To this day I can't find a good enough reason, personally, to purchase a 360
So I don't feel the need for another console ;)
 
I was considering one for a media player and for the Blu-ray but if its still above 3.5k then I cant see the point.

People were moaning about the price now it dropped and still people want it to be cheaper.

Thats why I say, can't please em all

The fact that I don't own a 360 is from personal choice so I don't get what you getting at :confused:

The thing is that the price is seen as R4k against the xbox which is R2.6k instead of the PS3 WAS R5.2k and now it is R4k. It is still relatively expensive compared to the arcade, evenly priced against the Pro and an extreme bargain against the old PS3 price.

But, this is not a flamewar thread! So lets all be nice and objective. ;)

Then the answer is simple don't buy it.
Sorry I may have directed the initial comment wrongly, busy on 3 forums and hearing waaaay too many complaints.

Yup! No point in having a next gen console with no HD TV support.
I hear that the Slim has some type of Bravia functionality!

Yes. Bravia sync. All it means is that it will funtion with all Sony/compatible equipment in unity via HDMI controls.

Using BRAVIA Sync with Control for HDMI
The BRAVIA Sync function on this TV communicates with other Sony equipment supporting the Control for HDMI function.

To connect Sony equipment with Control for HDMI
Use an HDMI cable that bears the HDMI logo for connection. See the HDMI connection shown in the Quick Setup Guide provided with the TV documentation.

Setting the Control for HDMI
The Control for HDMI function must be set up in order for the TV to communicate with other Control for HDMI enabled equipment. For other equipment, refer to its operating instructions.

Available options using Control for HDMI
The following operations are available after you connect the supported Sony equipment with Control for HDMI function to your TV:

Automatically turn off the connected equipment when you turn off the TV.

The TV will automatically turn on and select the respective HDMI input.

The connected equipment is turned on by One-Touch-Play.

Possible operations with BRAVIA Sync buttons.
Equipment listed under External Inputs will turn on automatically when selected.
When a Sony A/V receiver with BRAVIA Sync is connected, the following additional operations are possible:

Turning on the A/V receiver when the TV is turned on.
Adjusting the volume and muting of the A/V receiver with the TV’s remote control.

Pressing THEATER on the remote control turns on and searches for an external audio system that supports BRAVIA Sync. When the BRAVIA Sync audio system is on, the internal speakers of the TV will turn off and the Picture Mode will change automatically to Cinema.

When using BRAVIA Sync, the included remote control will change some of the buttons functions to accommodate control over the device. If the device does not support this feature, some buttons will remain without function.

Some nice fuctions can be divised using the emminent motion and Emotion detectors/controls added on top of Bravia Sync.
