For as long as I can recall Standard bank has been the largest bank in SA.
Today I was checking some share prices and I see that First rand group has now overtaken them! Big news:
First Rand Market Cap: 189.15bn
Std Bank Market Cap: 188.66
Surprised to have not seen an article on this yet. Its been a long time coming. I suspect the next switch will be Nedgroup overtaking ABSA but that will take a little longer to accomplish. NED is up 2.77% today while ABSA is up 1.8% only. Gains like that will eventually real them in.
