First student car help

If you do go for a polo and you have problems starting the car or power issues check at the sparkplugs for a little extra bit called a suppressor. They tend to be very fidgety and are only there to "lengthen" the sparkplug life. Remove them so you can get moving and replace when you can get to a service center. Been left in the lurch in the middle of nowhere by one of those
 
Get quotes for insurance on the different cars, some may be a lot more than others even if you are paying the same 50k for it, so might work out a lot cheaper/expensive in the long run.

Thanks, that isn't something I thought of.
 
+1 for Honda. They are light on the juice and is not expensive to maintain as some would believe. I had 3 Balades in my life time, 1983 and 1987 (with Pop-up lights models - very light on petrol) and a 1993 (I sold it in 2005 and could still get 15Km/liter).

Edit: I see your budget is R50K. Why not check for a Hyunday Atos (2nd hand). They are also solid and light on petrol.

Why not a get a Getz, its a nice 4 door car that's light in juice. you can get them in that price range
 
Consider a 125CC scooter of motorbike. They run on fumes (+-40km/litre)

Seems like a good price to me, gonna assume its the 1.4? Has it got service history, etc? Check what your insurance company is asking for monthly on that car. Also ask them what the market value is on the car, will give you a good indication of the pricing.
 
Out of your possible list I say Renualt Clio. A friend of mine has one and he says the fuel consumption is great! He says R100 lasts him a week. He drives around town and lives in the Northern Suburbs.
 
My mighty Corsa 1.4 has served my University days well, great little car :)
